Back when NASA was doing their flight training in prepreation for thier first moon landing, they had training bases set up in the New Mexico dessert, off the Navaho reservation.
One day an old Navaho man and his son was walking the length of their property. The old man could only speek his native language. As they went further out they could see something from off at a distance. They agreed to go check it out. As they got closer the old man noticed that there were men dressed up in funny suits. He turned to his son and asked "Why do you think they are all dressed in those funny suits?" his son replied "Don't know, lets go up there and ask them".
As they approached the men in funny suits the son tells them in English "My father and I are wondering why you are all dressed in those suits?" One of the astronauts replies, "We are here in training for NASA's moon landing". The son turns to his father and translates what the astronaut had said.
The old man becomes excited and tells his son to ask them a question for him. His son turns back to the astronaut and sais "My father would like to send a message with you to the moon when you go".
The astronauts look puzzled but agree that this would be good for public relations. So one of the astronauts run back to grab a tape recorder. After returning with the tape recorder he holds it up so that the old man could speak into it. The old man sais a few words in his Navaho language. Afterwards they ask the son to translate what his father said. The son sais "No, I will not translate that", and father and son just walk off back home.
Well, the astronauts are curious by that and the next day they went to the Navaho reservation. That day the tribal council was meeting and the astronauts asked if they could please translate what was spoken into the tape recorder. They agreed to listen.
After the tape was played, the council burst out with laughter. They told the astronauts "No we are not going to translate that".
By now the astronauts are very curious as to what that old man said. They call up Washington on a public relations matter and asked to have a translator flown out to listen to this message.
The federal translator arrives and listens to the tape. Afterwards he was almost reluctant to tell them what was said but finally agreed.
The federal translator said "The message sais, Beware these men dressed in funny suits, they have come to take your land!!"
