I have searched all over for my GGmother. Isabell P.(Richards)Thompson, bn/abt 1855-65-Ind. dod/ abt.1902, Knox Co. Ind. My gma was bn/Nov. in 1884, Missouri. My GGfather, Samuel E.Thompson, bn/? dod/abt 1892 Knox Co. Ind. Gma said her Mother was a full-blood Blackfoot and her Father was Black Dutch. He was a fur trapper and trader in Mo. In 1900 he loaded up the covered wagon and took his family HOME to Knox Co, Ind. They died shortly after in Knox Co. Gma was about 6/7. She had 1 older brother, George, who was abt 5 yrs older than Gma. I hope you can help me. PattyKK

Welcome, Patty.
There are too many Samuel Thompsons in Knox Co. in that time frame and no qualifying ages, so we'll have to go about it from a different direction.
What is your grandmother's first name?
Which county in Missouri was she born?

Have you seen the posts that mention a "Blackfoot Church" in Pike County, Indiana? This forum has a search engine that will allow you to do a search for it and read up on it.

In the grave yard of that church are a bunch of Thompson's --

I am new to this forum and not quite sure of how to do this. I thank you for your help in trying to find if my grandmother was a full-blood Blackfoot like my Grandmother said. In the 1930 US Census of Indiana Gma said her mother, Isobelle P. Richards, was born in Indiana. Gmas father, Samuel E. Thompson, was born in Virginia. My Gma was Olla Catherine Thompson, bn/Nov. 1884 Pierce City, Lawrence Co., Missouri. Her brother, George was about 5 years older.(I know nothing of him except he was alive in the early 1930 in Terre Haute, Ind). Gma said that in 1900, her father loaded all of them in a covered and took them home to Vincennes, Knox Co, Ind. Both of her parents died shortly after that and faily raised them. She never said who that family was. Only that the other kids in school called her that halfbreed. She married William Riley Kirkland in Dec. 1900 in Vincennes. I have a small tintype of Isobelle which I took and had it redone and enlarged. She was very young and beautiful and very dressed up. I thank you for any help you can offer. Patty

Patty,
I'm pretty sure this is them........
Between the time George was born in 1876/78 in Indiana and Ollie was born in 1884 Missouri, they were in Labette Co., Kansas.
That's in S.E. Kansas next to the Oklahoma border.
1880 Labette Co., Kansas Census; ED120 City of Parson; p.434A, 8 June, at 151, 168:
Thompson, Samuel; W, m, 33, Railroad Lab'r; Va, Va, Va.
(ditto), BELL; W, f, 26, wife; Ind, Ohio, Ind.
(ditto), George; W, m, 2, son; Ind, Va, Ind.
I may have located Isabell Richards on the 1860 Knox Co., Ind census but I've got some work to do to prove it's the same person.
FYI:
A) Indiana Marriage Record Index for Knox Co., Ind., Book C-15, p.367 shows William R. Kirkland married Olla Thompson on 26 Nov 1900.
Cross-checking that for more information on the 1940 Indiana Works Progress Administration Index to Knox Co Marriage records (a make-work project during the latter days of the Depression), notorious for incorrect spellings, etc.....
Olla's name is mistranscribed as "Alla" & her age is listed as 17. Her father is Samuel Thompson and her mother's maiden name is listed as "Cable" Richards, a probable misspelling of Isabell.
B) I think the George Thompson, age 24 in 1900, who lived 2 houses around the corner in Vincennes from your William Kirkland, is Ollie's brother. This census was taken on 1 June 1900, so the rest of the Thompsons are probably on it somewhere - just haven't found them yet.
I'm going to go out of town tomorrow (Wednesday) and won't be back until about next Monday, so I won't have the opportunity to work on this until I get back.

Thank you for all of the info. I have Ancestry.com and had looked all over for my GGparents but I never thought of Kansas. Gma always said that her father was a fur trapper and trader. I shall go to the 1900 census and see what I can dig up. Gma's name was OLLA, not Ollie. She was definatly Indian, but she was a great Gma. I think I have found Isobelle's family but not sure. 1860 US Census-Wabash Co; Ind. Amaziah L. Richards-25-Ohio==Conzada-24-Ind== Isabella-5-Ind==Indiana-2-Ind. In 1870 census=== Wabash Co; Ind. Amaziah-36-Ohio==Cansady-33-Ind==Isabell-15-Ind==Indiana-12==Nancy-9-Ind==John-7-Ind==Jehu-5-Ind==Willis-1-Ind== Also this-Amaziah L. Richards-Company I, 8 Indiana Infantry-Private-Union==Filed for pension in Nebraska. 1879, Mar. 28 Invalid-Appli-#275.706=Cert.#847-752-Neb.== 1900, July 9 Widow(Cansady Richards), Appli-#728-259-Cert#504-789- Neb.== I am going ahead on this. Maybe they were both Blackfoot? Thanks, Patty

Patty,
I used the name "Ollie" for Olla because that's the way it was on that one census record --- a probable family usage / nickname.
More later,
Bill

Bill, Thanks for the reply. I relized that it must have been a nickname. Also I am not sure of the Amaziah Richards. Ended up he was in the Civil War and wounded. They moved to Nebraska and applied for a pension on 8 Mar. 1879. His wife applied in 1900.as his widow. By 1882 when their last child was bn i Neb. Isobelle would have been only 17. So, I don't think she is the right one. Gma only said that when her parents died that FAMILY took them in. She never said who-aunt, uncle, grandparents or ? Still searching and thanks. patty
