I'm new here and wanted to post my message. All my life I've been told that I descend from Blackfoot Indians. My GGgrandmother was Susannah BURCH and her father was Michael BURCH. They were Indian. I always thought there was some mistake about the tribe being Blackfoot or maybe that was a clan or band of some other tribe since my family lived in Washington Co, Alabama which was Choctaw territory. This was the only BURCH family in this county which means they probably came from somewhere else. Imagine my surprise when I heard of all the other folks in the south that claimed Blackfoot heritage. I did hear from a lady in MS that said she was descended from Blackfoot BURCHes but had no other info. Could anyone out there know anything about BURCH families of Indian ancestry in the southeast, especially Blackfoot? If so please let me know! By the way, I think this forum is great! May the Great Spirit smile on all of us!

Welcome to the forum, Johnny.
What kind of help do you want? With some additional specifics on your lines, I could do some census lookups to give you more information on them. What time period did Michael Burch live there?

Thanks Bill.
I know they were in Washington Co, AL in 1860 as Michael (first name possibly Rueben) served in the civil war beginning 1860 and listed home as Washington County. He had a son named Rueben Michael BURCH born 1853 in AL. Michael Sr. married the second time to a WEAVER supposedly from Baldwin Co, AL. I don't know who his first wife was. He had another daughter besides Susannah. Her name was Martha. It's not much but if you can help, I'd appreciate it.
