Hi, I am interested in the Indians around Gordonsville, VA. Recently I was told that early in the 1600's there was a colonial exploration party that came inland and killed a Chief Logan in that area. My Indian ancestors are through the line of a John Smith who was the father of Serrepta Ann Smith. they loved in Barboursville, VA. It has been real hard to get any info on them.

Hey, these towns are in Orange County and Albemarle County, the area in question is actually on the edges in both counties.

Could be the Siouan people we're talking about here. I know Jefferson was digging up a Saponi or Tutelo burial mound in Charlottesville.

I have some Smiths coming out of VA I think may be involved in this, myself, but I don't know where in Virginia. We pick them up in Ross County, Ohio in 1816 with a marriage involving an Elizabeth Smith, whow as born in Virginia. Her father may have been a John, that was one of the only Smiths in the county when she got married there.

Hi everyone. I was born and raised in Virgina. I know for a fact that my mothers farther 's side of the family is infact blackfoot. They all lived around Albemarle County, Charlottesville, and Culpepper county. My greatgrandaddy's last name was Doggett ,and my great grandmother's name was (Birdie )Bertie Clatterbuck before they married. They had 2 sons, one which was my grandaddy. His name was Robert Lee Doggett. He was born and raised in Culpeper County. He met my grandmother June Wiley, which is from Charlottesville,Va.They lived on then what everyone use to call Jarman Gap Road. In the old Cleveland house in Crozet. Her mothers name before marriage was Mable patterson. they had 3 children. When my grand parents married, they had 6 children. My mother is the oldest of the six. Mom grew up in crozet Va until she was about 14 years old then they moved to DC. From DC the family then moved to Richmond Va where my mother met my farther and she became a Smith. They had 4 children and I am the 3rd oldest. We moved to Va. Beach when I was in 5th grade and I have been here every since then. We still have family in Charlottesville, Va ,but I mostly know about my grandmothers side.My grandmother June and grandaddy Doggett divorced and he moved to Richmond. He died in July of 1966 just 2 months after I was born.He was burried in the Fairview cemetary in Culpeper, Va. Mom said the house he grew up in was right behind that cemetary. Mom only has pictures of grandaddy's side of the family and I want so much in my heart to find those that are a part of us. If anyone that reads this has any infomation please let me know. Thanks so much! God bless , Gidget

Gidget,

The forum has a neat seat engine so you can find a lot of things you are searching for. Click the "search" button at the top R corner of the page. Type in Plecker's list and infamous letter and it should give the information you seek.
