:) My name is Bonnie...I am looking for some info on my fathers side of my family...I dont know if anyone here can help me but I'm going to give it a try.
I was always told they we descended from the blackfoot indian. I live in Alabama. I havent had much luck in researching this.
My grandfather's name was James Clinton Dunn. He had a half sister or step sister named Ruby. I also believe he had a brother named Lester.
MY grandfather was born in July of 1911 and died Jan. 1982.
If anyone thinks they could help me in my hunt please feel free to contact me by my email...
Thank you .
Bonnie

Welcome, Bonnie,
Hope we can help you.
A couple of questions to help refine your information and find a starting point on some records....
Is that Jacksonville in Calhoun Co., Ala.?
Was James Clinton Dunn from that county and state?
Do you know if Lester was younger or older than James?
What was your GrandMother's name?

Thank you so much for replying.

Tom,
I'm not sure if I have any family in Oregon, but I did get some more information today. My father told me that he believed his grandmother was full-blooded black foot although he didnt know her name because she and her husband died before he was born.We believe that my grandfathers sister(Ruby) had two sons named Harold and Charles. My father says that he believes that my grandfather had a step brother or half brother named Denson Kilpatrick who was from James Town, Louisiana, he wasnt absolutely sure about that. Also thinks that he had another brother besides Lester. His name is Ralph Dunn. And my cousin believes that my grandfather might have had another brother named Clifford Dunn, says that he might live around Childersburg,Alabama.
My father believes that my grandfather was born in Coosa county, Alabama. Around Fayetteville or Marble Valley.
My grandfather had five children. Nora, James, Joseph,Lonnie(who died when he was just 9 yrs old), and my father whose name is George.
Thats all I know for now. Ive got my aunts address to write her she was the oldest of the kids ..but if you think you have any other info that might help me feel free to send me another reply.
Thanks so much,
Bonnie

Bonnie,
Your father's memory is pretty good.
The 1930 Coosa Co., Ala Census, ED 18, Marble Valley - Pct. 13, 14 April, p.9A; dwelling # 107, family # 109; lists:
DUNN,
Tomy H., farmer, 45, marr'd @ 22, (born:) Ala.
Lillian M., wife, 29, marr'd @ 18, (b.:) Ala.
Henry L., son, 21, farm laborer, Ala.
JAMES C., son, 18, farm laborer, Ala.****
Emily R., dau, 15, Ala.
Lillian E., dau, 9, Ala.
Ralph B., son, 8, Ala.
A. T., son, 6, Ala.
Rex H., son, 4, Ala.
Francis M., son, 2, Ala.
Emily S., mother, 74, Ala, Unkn, Unkn.
("Tomy" is probably a "Thomas" and his middle initial is "H", maybe for "Henry". Tomy and Lillian's fathers and mothers were listed as born in Alabama. Tomy m'd Lillian when she was 18 so she is not the mother of the first 3 children. Emily S.'s parents are listed as born "Unknown".)
Same census, p.9A, at 84, 86, is Tomy's older brother:
DUNN,
John F., farmer, 51, marr'd @ 48, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Effie (?) B., wife, 35, marr'd @ 33, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Willie (?) M., son, 1 yr 10 months, Ala, Ala, Ala.
.................................................. ...............
1920 Coosa Co., Ala; ED 65, Marble Valley Pct.13, 17 Jan, p.3A, at 48, 49:
DUNN,
Francis M., farmer, 74, Ala, NC, GA
Savannah, wife, 65, Ala, Ga, Ga. (same as Emily S.)
John F., son, 40, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Same census, p.3A, at 52, 53:
DUNN,
Tommy H., farmer, 35, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Lillian, wife 18, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Lester H., son, 10, Ala, Ala, Ala (same as Henry L.)
CLINTON J., son, 8, Ala, Ala, Ala (same as James C.)****
Ruby E., dau, 5, Ala, Ala, Ala.
(Tommy and Lillian are listed as m'd for 1 yr - in 1930 Lillian is listed as married at 18, so she has probably been married less than a year here.)
Coosa County, Ala Death Registry lists:
Marion F. Dunn, died June 1923. (same as Francis M.)
Emily S. Dunn, died April 1935. (Emily Savannah)
.................................................. ...................
1910 Coosa Co., Ala, Marble Valley Pct 13, 24 April, p.6B, at 115, 117:
Dunn, Francis M., farmer, 64, m'd 1x, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, Emily S., wife, 55, m'd 1x, Ala, Ga, Ga.
Dunn, John F., son, 32, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, Georgie R., dau, 19, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, Jimmie M., son, 18, Ala, Ala, Ala.
(Francis and Emily listed as m'd for 39 yrs.)
Next door, at 116, 118:
Dunn, Tommie H., farmer, 23, m'd 1x, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, Norah M., wife, 22, m'd 1x, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, Henry L., son, 7 months old, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Coosa County, Ala Death Registry lists:
Mrs. Tom Dunn, died 10 Nov 1916.
(This is probably Norah M.)
.................................................. ....................
1880 Coosa Co., Ala Census, ED 51 Mt. Olive, Beat # 5, 24 June, p.232B, at 48, 53:
Dunn, Francis M., 33, farmer, Ala, SC, Ga.
Dunn, Savanah E., 25, wife, Ala, Ga, Ga.
Dunn, Henry R., 5, son, Ala, Ala, Ala.
Dunn, John, 2, son, Ala, Ala, Ala.
No marriage records were found for any of the above so maybe Coosa Co.'s are in these databases I used. Had hoped to determine what these women's maiden names were. Maybe you can find those marriage records in Coosa Co. Courthouse.
The birthplaces of Francis M. are listed inconsistently.
James Clinton Dunn's grandfather's name is probable Francis Marion, and possibly named after the Rev. War hero Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox", from the Carolinas.
I haven't been able to find Francis M.'s parents yet.
If you have any questions about my abbreviations, email me and let me know.

Bill,
I just want to thank you so very much. You have no idea how happy this has made me. To find out the names of relatives that I never got the chance to know. And hope that with these names I may be able to find relatives that are still alive and get to know them also..
And again from the bottom of my heart, Thank You.

Most of Coosa river was one or another band of Creeks, but some Cherokees were at the north end of the Coosa from about 1780s or 90s to late 1830s.

Bonnie, sorry for spacing that and not recognizing the name.
Okay...... you're interested in finding living relatives. In 1900, they were in Tallapoosa County, descendants of Francis Marion Dunn as well as his brother John M. Dunn, b. apr 1848, Ala. I'll run a many of his kids down as I can and let you know.
Francis M., and John M.'s parents were, according to this:
1850 Tallapoosa Co., Ala Census, Twp 23, p.78, at 1120, 1120:
Franklin Dunn, 35, m, w, farmer, $300, NC
Sarah Ann, 23, f, w, Ga.
FRANCIS M., 4, m, w, Ala.****
John M., 3, m, w, Ala.
Joseph, 2, m, w, Ala.
..............
1860 Tallapoosa Co., Ala. Census, Western Divn, Beat 10, P.O.:
Pinkneyville, p.365A, 29 August, at 1160, 1160:
Franklin Dunn, 45, m, farmer, $700, $500, NC.
Sarah, 30, f, Ga.
Frances, 14, m, Ala.****
John M., 12, m, Ala.
Joseph L., 9, m, Ala.
Emily, 7, f, Ala.
William, 5, m, Ala.
Marietta, 2, f, Ala.
..................
1870 Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Census, Hackney Beat, P.O.:Hackneyville, 13 August, p.37B., at 73, 73:
Dunn, John, 26, m, w, farm Laborer, $0, $200, Ala.****
Dunn, Mary, 16, f, w, Ala.(prob. John's wife)
Dunn, Marion, 22, m, w, farm laborer, $0, $200, Ala.****
................
Also in 1870 Tallapoosa Co., the only female with the first name of Savannah per a census search engine:
P.O.: Dadeville, Red Ridge Twp Beat 9, 7 July, p.116A, at 102, 102:
SMITH, Marion, 37, m, w, farm laborer, Ga.
Smith, Susan, 32, f, w, Ga.
Smith, SAVANNAH, 11, f, w, Ala.
Smith, Rufus, 9, m, w, Ala.
Smith, Alice, 5, f, w, Ala.
Smith, Tylor, 9 months, m, w, Ala. (born "Aug")
This "might" be your Savannah but this may only be a coincidence. Savannah was also listed in a census as an "Emily S.", and there are 102 "Emily" 's that turn up on such a search, so we still don't know but keep these Smiths in mind in you search - I think Francis Marion Dunn m'd Savannah in Tallapoosa County, there's just no proof yet.
...................
In 1880, Francis M. and Savannah had moved to Coosa Co., John's still in Tallapoosa.
...................
1900 Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Census Hackneyville Pct 3, 18 June, p.74A, at 224, 221:
Dunn, J. M., farmer; w, m, Apr 1848, 52, m-30, Ala, SC, Ga.
Dunn, M.E., wife; w, f, July 1853, 46, m-30, 8/7, Ga, Ga, Ga.
Dunn, Geo. M., son; w, m, Nov 1877, 22, Ala.
Dunn, A. L., son; w, m, July 1881, 18, Ala.
Dunn, Emma, dau; w, f, Aug 1884, 15, Ala.
Dunn, Henry, son; w, m, Aug 1887, 12, Ala.
Dunn, C.? P.?, son; w, m, Aug 1891, 8, Ala.
...........
"m-30" = married for 30 years.
"8/7" = has had 8 children, 7 are still living.
