Okay, I've finally gotten back into some database work and I think I'm ready to tackle a project I've wanted to do here for awhile.
I want to do a roll call, except I want people to input their data into an online database so it will be easy to refer to and gather data from in the future. I'd like some input. What fields should I include? We want to ask enough so that the info will make for useful citations, at the same time we don't want to put people off with excessive complexity.
So, what if they enter their nick, their email address, [a not-to-be published name, address, phone -- touchy but necessary if we are to quote any of this??) Then they can input names, dates, locations of as many ancestors as they want, along with a field for details or comments.

No, I wasn't expecting anybody to post their addresses etc publically. What I'm talking about is what questions should I ask on an online database of genealogical data I'm planning to put up.

Just curious - when do you think you will begin collecting the information for the database Linda? Kalisetsi

migration of family lines
might be good to be able to tie some lines together with others http://winwinworld.net/SaponiForum/UBB/smile.gif
possibly years of these lines might be included also http://winwinworld.net/SaponiForum/UBB/smile.gif

Thanks all for the good input.
When? Depends on how easy it is figuring out how to get it online. Haven't done that yet. I've got a good manual, it will just depend on how thick headed I am vs. available time. Anybody familiar with Access?

Sounds really good.If any of you have time check out my family tree on geneology site. Im in the process of researching deeper on the Collins and other known Saponi Tutelo names. I also remembered the people that talked to my family said that they told them they were tutelo...that was the Meades...and Boyds for now...getting more info as we speak.Thank you all

What's the link to your genealogy site, CR? Who were the people who said your family was Tutelo?

I dont have a link to my geneology...Its here on the forum under the geneology...It says Collins info and my direct line. The people who told me my family said they were Tutelo were the Amonsoquath.I figure they would have no reason to lie about it and since Ive never been able to get ahold of that part of my family it must be true. This guy down there said he knew the Meades and Boyds from Iowa that visit them at gatherings every year. It has to be my family because my family is the only Indian Meades and Boyds around the Des Moines area.He knew exactly what area in Iowa they lived.I just cant get ahold of my family because there are so many Meades in the phonebook. I have to talk to the right person in my family to find them.

I know Access very well, it's part of what I do for a living. If you need any help setting up the data base, just e-mail me. I can set it up and e-mail the data base, queries and input forms to you based upon your specifications. You would just need to input the data. Now I think I shoukd go to the main board and introduce myself. You seem like a very nice group of people.

Thanks you so much for the offer. I would love help. I like fumbling around with new things, but my fumble around time is limited at the moment. I'll be in touch.
