Before 1730 because he married Elizabeth Bowling about 1730 she is the daughter of John Bowling and Mary Kennon and born aroung 1709 in Cobbs, Petersburg, Virginia. I found William Gay that married Margaret Walkup in the Irlend census on Ancestry.com and my family always told me we were Irish as well as Native American..ie Blackfoot, Cherokee and according to data in proving my connection to Powwhatan.

6. ELIZABETH6 BOLLING (JOHN5, JANE4 ROLFE, THOMAS POWHATTAN3, POCAHONTAS (MATOAKA)2 POWHATAN,
CHIEF WAHUNSONACOCK1) was born 1709 in Cobbs, Pertersburg County, Virginia. She married WILLIAM GAY,
son of THOMAS GAY. He was born 1705 in Ulster, Ireland, and died 1749.
Children of ELIZABETH BOLLING and WILLIAM GAY are:
7. i. HENRY "RED"7 GAY, b. 1758, Greenbriar County, Virginia; d. 1830, Gay's Creek Perry County, Kentucky.
ii. JOHN GAY.
iii. WILLIAM GAY JR..
iv. MARY GAY.
I should check my spelling closer. Ireland. I didn't want to put my whole Descendancy here but this is the jest of the Gay connection and I descend from Henry Red Gay. (don't ask) I don't know if this pertains to skin or hair. I was told he had firey red hair. There is a story about a Native American woman whose remains were found on Upper Buffalo in 1950 when Owlsley County was putting in a road. Supposedly this woman was Henry's first wife. The University of Ky. took the remains and later determined that they were approximately 200years old. I tried to retrieve her remains to bury them in an appropiate place and was told they did not have them by their Anthropology department. There are more details to this but too much to put here I think.

We need to find out just what the documentation is for names like Boling, who are known to be Saponi. I only know the names, I don't know what the original sources are and the details. Wish somebody would share some of that.

I can not tell you that you will find the name Saponi in these files. But you will find the records of my family from Chief Powwhatan, Pocahontas (Rebecca) Rolfe and into my Bolling-Gay family and many others. I don't know if this is what you want and I don't even know if I am Saponi. All I know is what I have been told and have been able to back up with recorded documentation. Blackfoot, Algonquin, Cherokee. I don't know which or if it is all I know that Native American blood courses through these veins of mine along with other nations. I am proud of who I am and who they were and who we will become. I am unsure where this journey will lead us but I am willing to go. I hope we can go together. Nancy

Which of those tribes were you told about, and which did you find out about through documentation?

I was told about the Blackfoot, Cherokee and relation to Pocahantos but never really believed the latter one until it was documented.
