Hi everyone:
My family probably had more secrets than the Pentagon. What

I do remember is that my grandmother saying we were 'Black Dutch', which I didn't have any clue what that term meant.

However, I did have one aunt and uncle who had more prominent black features, although I can't say as I really gave it much thought back then (that was in the 60's)

My aunt did say that she remembers having to get off the sidewalk when a 'white person' was walking on it (this was in North Carolina and I have no idea what city).

We lived in the Maryland/DC area and my Uncle lived in Georgetown but then moved to Virginia. I have no idea where my family originated from, but was told much later that my mother's family were Native American, proabably Saponi/Tuscarora......who knows.
I was told that I was Cherokee/Bird Clan, but that I would have to prove it.

I have some pictures of myself, children, a pic of my mom at 13 and maybe someone on the list might be able to recognize our relations through these pictures.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have this impression of the Occaneechi Saponi. I hope it's a matter of simple miscommunication. I've witnessed them mentioning the importance of the Hathcocks in Saponi history frequently, seen it in the materials they present to the public, and heard them speak often and well of the Ohio Hathcocks.

Outside of your Heathcock(Haithcock) connections to the Occaneechi especially those in Ohio, I have documentation of 2 Hathcock boys marrying 2 Poythress women, daughters of Celia Poythress that is listed on the census records of Northampton County in the late 1700 and early 1800's. No need to worry of your connections to the Occaneechi Saponi...you are very well documented in the Saponi line.

As Linda stated, the Occaneechi specifically name the Hathcocks (Haithcocks) in their history.
