We have really had a rough winter up here in New England. We have had two months where it has been below zero at night and days haven't gotten out of the teens. We have had snow , snow, and more snow. I haven't been outside this house for weeks as my drive way is a solid sheet of ice. Today we are being clobbered with another storm. They are forcasting anywhere from 1-2 FEET on top of the 17 inches that is already on the ground. If you guys don't hear from me in a while please send the snow dogs out in search with a supply of brandy to warm me up and PLEASE pray for Spring.:(

Here in SW OHIO we can sympathize with you. We now have l6-24 inches of snow. Which is something almost unheard of in this area. We are on a township road, which hasn't been plowed yet. But have plenty food, thanks to a husband that raises a garden and cans from it. Made vegetable soup yesterday and baked a chocolate cake. Hubby is out now on tractor, pushing snow, so he can get out of driveway. He has to find a way to get his sister to kidney dialysis in Fairborn OH by noon. He's thinking about calling the fire dept., for assistance in getting out. Saying all this to let you know, you aren't alone. Barbara Melton;) ;)

tHANKS, I needed that.

I know what kidney problems are all about. I have PKD {polycystic kidney disease} My function is down to about 25 % and at 20 I will have to go on the machine. My knees and hips are bad so when it is like this I just have to stay inside. Haven't been outside the house now in weeks. Guess I am getting cabin fever. We too have plenty of food and just pray the power doesn't go so we can stay warm and eat a hot meal. There is one thing that made my day this morning. I looked out my window and sitting on the power line was a robin. That is usually the first sign that spring is on it's way.

Dear dknicely,
I will try to be as nice as possible, no pun intended. I read your post, & wanted to respond. As a citizen of the United States of America, I will express my feelings regarding the impending war. Even though I don't feel that this is the proper place to do so. :)

First of all, the information you provided about Iraq's citizens & their poverty level has a simple solution. Take just a tiny portion of the wealth from Saddam & give it to the people. Problem solved. This will never happen with him in power, as he has been known to kill his own people.

Our Government has been left with no other options, but to prepare for war. Saddam has WMD, & will use them. We as Americans need to fight for our freedom, instead of bowing down to those that hate us. We must not allow Saddam, Usama, & all of Usama's followers to get away with the terror that they have caused our great Nation.

I stand behind our President, as a proud citizen, & as a sister of a US. Marine, I say SEMPER FI!!! As a friend of a lady that escaped the WTC, I say God Bless Us All.

Sincerely,
Coheelady

howdy everybody --

Weather and war, well that is a typical Oklahoma conversation, so I feel like chirpin in. :)

Sorry to hear about your weather. I can say I saw snowflakes a fallin' once this winter, but they melted as soon as they hit the ground. I'll be complainin' about the weather come June or july when it gets up to 100 or 110, tho!

i sure hope there isn't any war -- I'm a life long Democrat and will proudly say when I go to my grave -- I never voted for a Republican. Dad was a Roosevelt Democrat and used to say "the worse mistake I ever made in my life was in '72, when I voted for a Republican, Nixon." And he was right -- that was his worse mistake. :) He was a good man. He was a WW2 Army veteran and Pearl Harbor Veteran to boot, so he was there from beginning to end. Even so, back in '71 when I joined the Army the Viet Nam war was still goin' on, he begged me not to and said he didn't want me to see some of the things he saw. Well I never left stateside, ha ha. But real soldiers (like my dad was) I think, don't really ever want a war as it's a choice of last resort and we don't need Both Bushes -- rich transplanted Texas oilmen, makin' wars over oil. Havin said that, I have to say I tried at one time to sympathize with the Arabs, but I don't think I can do that any more -- I've given up on them and they seem just too crazy.

Lately the news has been talkin about a lotta snow up in the North East -- hope and pray yall who live up there are okay. Stay warm.

Thanks Vance for your concern. We got 25 inches of the white stuff on top of 17 inches alread on the ground when it started. However I have pleanty of food and a warm house and children living close by that see to my very need so I can't really complain.
My feelings are that you can always put on more clothing but when it gets hot you can't take it all off :o

Spoke to a cousin in West Virginia this morning. They got the ice storm that went along with this storm. They lost their power on Sunday and still haven't gotten it back. They just got their phones back this morning. Richwood ,West Virginia is without electirc and water. So if you look at it that way there is always somebody in worse shape than you.....

As for the War. I try not to dwell on it too much as I live about 15 miles from the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant. I was a military wife for over 20 years and it breaks my heart to see the faces of the loved ones as they watch their "special person" go off to war. I have been there and done that and my hopes and prayers would be that things like that would never come to be again, at least not in my lifetime.
I do prayer for the insocent people, the children that have no part in this, the eldery that only want to live out their lives in peace, as I do. But , I also know that I don't want a war being fought on American soil and the price we have to pay for this, I am afraid will be expensive.

Hi Brenda,

No problem. Happy to hear you have food and heat a plenty.

everybody,

It's okay to disagree about politics and religion I think. I won't think more or less of anyone because of disagreements . . . most of the time. Unless that politics and/or religion is something really really weird. :) Did I just contradict myself? vance:confused:

I enjoy the ability to talk about things with yall -- like in a normal conversation -- other than genealogy or history -- with yall, if you don't mind. A change of pace, maybe get to know one another a bit better.

Two or 3 years ago I knew absolutely nothing about Six Nations -- in fact I was so stupid I didn't know there WAS a Six Nations, that they even existed. But a year or so ago I got to be friends with someone who was a member, and after gettin to know him a little bit, it left me curious and wantin' to know more. So Dennis, maybe I'll look up that link you left, thanks.

best wishes -- vance
