Hello All well I was out at a friends place, he does arch, surveys and is from the Piegan Nation . He has found a Venus figurine, painteed partly green on yellow clay, the face , breasts , and abdomen are all concave rather odd, but very interesting, more on this latter, Tom

hello I have aminute, well its been several 100 years since these folks did any kind of pottery, so since it was found parially exposed on the higest ridge for a long way, and the valley below runs east and west, its hard to say no one has been upo there for a very long time, although there no is evidence of people being there on the surface it really hard to know what is the age of it, these ridges over look miles and miles of drivew lanes that all head to a buffalo jump hat is 12500 years old.
From looking at this figure I'd say it has to be close to 1000 years old.
I have pic's of it and will some time in the near future send you a copy if you'd like one Linda.
I am trying to get my niece intersted in pottery since her father is a Blod Indian. She could be the fisrt traditional potter in over 300 years, if she decides to do it perhaps these figures will be apart of what she may have to offer, all the best Tom.
