My Mom; Linda Rosita Branch
My Father, Paul Aaron Butler
The following is all from my Mother's side of the family. I know almost nothing about my father's people other than that they came from New York.
My maternal Grandma, Maggie Onita Grisgby Branch Alley
Her husband, My Grandfather, Howard Watson Branch
Grandma's mom. Oneeta Viola Kinnison
Grandma's Dad, Lacey Grigsby,Sr.
Grandma's Grandma--Bennie Ann Cleveland Bowman ( I think that's maternal)
Her Grandpa , Clarence Darewood Kinnison, was Scots-Irish, my Great-Great Grandfather His father was his brother's master, and his mother was a Mulatto named Caroline. Grandma's Grandfather's father, was 'Old Man Kinnison." His other son was Doc Kinnison
Great ,Great Grandma Dolly- was Dolly Lee--English and Cherokee, Mother was Cherokee came off the Trail of tears--sadly, her name has been lost, forever. (maternal)
*A Group of Indians were being made to walk west through the Carolinas to Oklahoma--on the way, near where Louisville is now-- the soldiers shot all the men and sold the women and children into slavery-- that was Grandma's great , great Grandma's mother .
She was her master's ( Old Man Kinison's) daughter, East Kentucky, Bardstown Junction about five miles from where Louisville is today.*
Interesting note.. the pattern my family moved in covers the Trail of Tears Overland route.
Her daughter was Dolly Lee; who was Half-Indian and half English. She used to make here money selling ginseng, yellow picune root and bloodroot in Louisville, at a time when it was known for it's whisky and medicine. She was also known to be able to dance with a jug on her head without spilling a drop, and could put both feet behind her head. She was also very tiny. She wore a size 3 shoe.
John Bowman , Grandma Kinnison's Father, fought in the Civil war, and had been a slave...
He got his 40 acres of land but never got the mules.. Grandma met him when she was nine years old.
My Grandpa; Howard Watson Branch --- founded Antioch Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois.
He graduated from Morehouse College. Died in 1945-46 (?) He called himself "The Black Angel" and was the first to put Nurses in Black Churches.
His father was a preacher in Chicago from Texas--all the Branches came from Texas. They travelled there from Virginia..
Interesting rumor in the Family—spoken of only in hushed tones—that Grandpa Branch’s family was part Blackfoot.
His Grandfather's, My Great-Great Grandfather was the Treasurer of Fort Bin Co, London Branch, who went From Norfolk , VA--to Texas-- and was at one time a Black Cowboy.

Ther were very Proud, independent people, very proud.
Great-Grandma Linnie Branch, (Grandpa H.W. Branch's mother) graduated from college before 1900 and was a teacher.
They had almond -eyes, dark skin, wavy haired..and a temperment know as "evil" .. meaning quick-temepered, and holding a grudge forever, stubborn and very much into appearances-- looking good.
We are African, Scots-Irish, Cherokee , English, (Saponi) ?
Supposedly there is Blackfoot on Grandpa's side? Others have said Sioux.
