I grew up hearing the story of how my great grandma Josephine Divers (1857-1934) was part Native American. She was supposedly descended from Chief Powhatan on her father's (Christopher Divers) side through the sister of Pocahontas (Princess Cleopatra), but more closely related to Native American heritage on her mother's (Frances Hodges) side. I have very little information on Josephine other than the fact that she and her parents were all born in Rocky Mount, Franklin County, Virginia. Her paternal grandfather may have been Thomas Divers (1799-1848) who was married to Lydia Plybon (1803-1862), her maternal grandfather was Campbell Hodges (about 1798-) of Franklin Co. and his wife is unknown. Josephine was orphaned at a young age when her parents died of smallpox. I am interested in knowing if there are any members of the Hodges family of Rocky Mount who have connections to the Saponi/Manahoac Indians?
