Hello this is only my 2nd post, don't know what I'm doing yet. my family line has John k. Jones born 1750 in Kentucky, an article I has him born 1776/69 in Colony, Laurel, Ky. he married to Orpha Gibson before 1790. I have them married around 1788/89. He died in 1811 in Knox County, Kentucky. Some of the Ancestry.com trees have he died in 1821 in Rutherford, N.C. and his parents were Benjamin Jones born 1715-died 1778 and Amy Parrish born 1725-died 1778. I have not verified this. My Orpha Gibson my be the daughter of Major Gibson. in an article on Mulungeons stated tax record show him a FPC, a free mulatto. None of my family on this side are very dark, but this was centuries back. Does any one have any information on any of them to help me, please? Thank you for any help you can give. All so my great grand mother Mary "Elizabeth" Hicks was Indian, I don't know what tribe, possibly Cherokee? how can I find out. She was born in 1860 in Missouri died in Oct./Nov. 1935 in Izard Co., Arkansas of a stroke and married in 1877 in Mo. to Hiram Jones born 1863 in Douglas County, Missouri. He died in Jan-Feb.1904 of possibly T.B. According to my father and his sisters, who remember visiting with their grandmother when they were children, great grandma Elizabeth (she was known as Elizabeth or Bethie) had long black straight hair, she not very dark and she did not speak very good english, it was hard for them to understand her. When I was about 14, I remember a group of Indian people coming from Oklahoma to see my grandmother Samatha (Elizabeth's daughter) wanting to get information from her to take back to Oklahoma to put on file. They said they were her family, at first she would not talk to them, she was afraid, I don't know why, grandma wouldn't talk about it, (her daughters told us a little). They would not leave until they talked with her, she agreed and they talked with her all day long for 3 1/2 days then left.

Welcome Reta. Thanks for posting all this. I put both your posts into the same thread. Hope I didn't lose anything.
You have quite a number of familiar names. I'm not saying this proves anything, but Collins is one of the few names ascribed to tribal Saponi. Some Collins were chased out of a county in VA (or was it NC) for firing some woods (getting them ready to plant as they always had). When the Saponi were at Ft Christanna in Brunswick County, VA the white settler living near them was a Hicks. That names comes up often among descendants. Gibson is another name that can be traced to some tribal Saponi. Knox County, KY is a common place for Saponi descendants to have settled. Not sure where you are in MO, but the Mahenip's Band are there, full of Collins, you may want to contact them. Haithcock (Hancock possibly a variant) is another common name in these circles, as is Jones. A number of folks with the same surnames as you have are in Ohio, with several tribal groups around.
I suppose all this could be coincidence, but it doesn't seem as likely as the possibility that you're tied in with all this.
If you'll use the search feature above on your family names, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Linda, thank you for answering me. I don't know where in Missouri my Hicks was born. Grandpa Hiram Jones that she married was born and grew up in Douglas County, Mo it is about in the middle of southern Misssouri, Ava is the county seat. 1860 census he was in Falling Springs Township, Douglas Co. He was in Texas County also on 1870 census, possibly they moved after their father died in civil war in 1863 also mother last my was now Jane Chaney (her maiden name was Collins, daughter of John and Margaret Collins), but no husband was listed. I don't know where he met grandma Elizabeth Hicks they married in 1877 in Mo. A lot of Collins females married Jones males in this family and most of them it looks like can be traced back thru Knox County, Kentucky and North Carolina. All your information was welcome and helpful. Do you know what year the Collins were in Ft. Christanna in Brunswick county, Va.?

Here's a quote from an old thread here on the forum, "The Collins Name"
The NA Collins were ordered out of Orange Co. Va in the court case in 1742 where several Indians were arrested and brought before the court and charged with stealing hogs and burning the woods . These Indians moved across the border into Granville Co. NC which later became Orange Co. NC. In the beginning of the 1750's they lived on the Flatt River and it appears the head of the family was Thomas Collins who was the father of several sons, Thomas Jr 1728, Joseph 1730,Samuel 1732,John 1734,George 1736 and Elisha 1738. From these sons come the many descendants of today's Collins line. Thomas Collins Story
You'll have lots of reading to do if you use the search button above for the name, "Collins." Not to mention all the rest of your names.
I don't believe there's any surviving surname recorded at Ft. Christanna. Those records there are came a bit later.

My father was adopted, his biological father was Everson Collins born 1916 in Scott County,VA.Everson's parents were Hugh and Nettie Hall Collins; Hugh's parents were John and Margaret Collins.John was born about 1862 in Virginia. Can't find much on this family all that I have is from census records.
I also have had my y-chromosome dna tested and what came up was that I'm closely related to several Collins families from Kentucky and Tennessee. There's just a handful of us and we all share the dys390 marker value of 20 which is rare in any haplogroup.
There's been speculation that we descend from Moorish Portuguese or Spanish that married into Native American tribes.
