Three Crows

Hello Saponitown

Having been born and raised up here in Yankee land, I had never been exposed to the name Tutelo. Being a curious individual, I set about searching the internet for the correct pronunciation, and guess what? It does not exist out there in the world (aren't we surprised). The closest any of the dictionaries could come was "tuxedo". So I am now doing what I should have done in the first place, and asking help from Saponitown.

Help! Would someone please provide the english pronunciation for the name Tutelo? There will be one less ignorant person in the world.

Many Thanks
Threecrows

Three Crows,

We have an archived message on this same topic.

I have a very old Merriam-Webster Dictionary at home which lists "Tutelo".Not sure of the copyright but it's:

u like the "oo" in tool

e like the "ay" in say

o is long,like in "Oh!"

So,one pronounces it "Too-tay-loh"

Thanks for the help Roca. It was driving me nuts. Am I correct in assuming that the emphasis would be on "tay" i.e. too tay loh?

Yes,Three Crows. The accent would be on the middle syllable, the "tay".
