I'm descended from Joseph ALLEN (b 1804, Montgomery Co, NC d 1877, Stanly Co, NC). Joseph was the son of George ALLEN (b abt 1769 VA d ? Montgomery Co, NC?) and Jane SNUGGS. This ALLEN family had strong ties to the Methodist Church. I'm not certain if they were Indian, but they are so connected to Indian families I thought I'd see if they connect to anyone else.

Joseph married Oney SHANKLE, daughter of George SHANKLE and Oney LEDBETTER. Oney LEDBETTER's mother was Tabitha CHAVIS. I found an old newspaper article from Stanly Co, NC which described Joseph ALLEN's wife as a "Turk". I believe this was because her grandmother was a CHAVIS. The LEDBETTERs heavily married into the CHAVIS family.

Is anyone kin to my Joseph ALLEN? Or know anything about a George ALLEN from VA?

Lee

Hi Lee!
I have been searching for the parents of George Allen with no luck yet.
However, I saw the Shankle lines with Oney etc. Allen lines I connect to are in Anson co which Montgomery co was formed from and then Stanly co was formed from Montgomery. I see there are some Nance connections as well. William Allen who married Mary Lewis (Carroll co Va courthouse group) had Darling Allen who married Judith Nance and Gray Allen who married Mary "Molly" Nance...Father to these two is Robert Nance..mother Ann Marshall. Brother to Robert is Thomas Nance married Elizabeth Hudson. Thomas Nance JR. married Priscilla Ivey. Now, Robert Allen Jr had William but daughters who married into the Hudsons. I would not be surprised to see them connect. There are plenty of holes as far as children, siblings etc. but there were a number of Allen descendants of just William alone all over NC. He fathered 21 children by three different wives? Saj

What time period was Elizabeth Hudson alive in? What part of the state is that county in?

Linda,
Today Stanly and Montgomery counties border Anson on the north and Anson borders South Carolina on the south. See this old map if the link works. Anson today is east of Charlotte NC and east of Union NC..

Hi guys, I'm also descended from Iveys. My branch were in VA in the 1600's, and were labeled whites or mulattos, then they ended up in NC by the 1700's. Many descendents are Lumbees today. DNA tests show my Ivey's were originally African.

I also have a Lechentz name in my family, believed to be a surname that married into my Brown or Morris lineage out of Hillsboro NC from the late 1700's. Lentz is a nickname in that family. Does your Lentz connect to any Lechentz? Where your Lentz out of? Another foreign sounding name in that family is Luciew. I'm guessing thats German.

saj, is this William Allen our William Hunt Allen, Daddy of Hannah Allen Howard? The reason I'm asking is because I thought Hannah was from Granville Co..

Spilleddi, who are your Browns? My Browns came west into MO in very early 1800's. I'm at the Sheriffs Office(Co. Jail), and don't have access to my family info right now. I believe I have a Browns family on one of these older topics.

Just keep finding more cousins.
Bob, the William who fathered Hannah is the uncle of William Allen who married Mary Lewis. Saj

Hi Cherosage, I'm descent from Elizabeth Brown, who married Isaac Morris in Hillsborough around 1797. There is a marriage record somewhere. I've never seen a copy. I'm wondering if she isn't descended from one of the German families that come to NC in the 1700's, don't know if Lechentz and Luciew are German names.

I was looking at old posts of Saj -really miss her -she said we were cousins.

I saw your Oney Ledbetter and remembered I had a 3 page print out from 2009 !
My gggggg-gf, Peter Randall b. Va 1723, m. Frances Barrett b. VA 1725 ( DAR)
had Frances Randall + m. Charles Ledbetter

Frances Randall + Charles Ledbetter had : Zedekiah Ledbetter
I don't know his wife's name but, Oney Ledbetter is listed as his daughter.
Oney married 1. James Raiford + 2. FNU Shankle " and moved to Alabama ."

Note: Zedekiah is buried on Little River, Montgomery Co., NC.
Edith " Edy" L. was his sister who married Colonel West Harris, Jr.( DAR)
Alot of people list Edy's father as Henry L. ( incorrect).
This was confirmed to me by a DAR Regent.

Also, my gggg-uncle, Abraham Howard b. 1740 m. Jane Allen - lived in Surry Co., NC.
They had 12 children: James, John, Abraham Jr., Charles , Richard, Judith, Mary + m. (Lackey),
Elizabeth, Sarah m.( Fanning), William, Lucy + m.( Renny) , Richard and
Susannah ( wife of Abner Vance).
Daughter, Elizabeth Vance, had Nancy Vance, who married Ephraim Hatfield.
They were the parents of William Anderson " Devil Anse " Hatfield who married Levica /Levicy Chaffin.

My ggg-gm, Rachel, - a Howard, married a Howard, and her parents were Howards
and her brother William Howard ( 1770-1829) who moved to TN , married August 5, 1794,
Elizabeth Chaffin ( 1775-1810 ).

Thank you Bob . You are a cousin to Saj ? How are you related ?

Saj told me we were definitely descended from John Goode and Ann Bennett.
