Ive been doing some research on my husband's family.
I was wondering if anyone else might have any information on the Boone Family from Gates County North Carolina. (No relation to Daniel Boone).

Im trying to also research Native Families that were living on the Bennett's Creek Reservation or perhaps the decendants.

We live in that area, and it is believed that our family was either once part of the Chowanoc/Chawanoke Indians. More precisely, Im trying to find more information regarding Abram Boone (Birth 1788) & Cherry Boyett (Birth Late 1700's)

They are also linked to the Meherin Tribe. I appreciate any additional information anyone might have. Ive researched and I've found the "Basic" Bennetts Creek & Chowanoc Information. But Im hoping to find more "detailed" (Names & Families) information.

Thank You so much :o)

Welcome ikitty3:)

Do you have ancestry.com? I looked up your Boone's and there is a woman who has a tree with Gates, NC Boone's, but it is a private tree.

Yeah, I have ancestry.com

There are two trees on the site with the information. There's my tree and then there's a distant cousin with the same info. She and I have been sharing information.

I believe her tree is set to private, however, regarding that side of the family she acquired most of her information from me.

I think Ive pretty much exhausted the Ancestry.com information. Ive also done research here at the courthouse and library.
This is a really tiny town, and unfortunately, there's alot of history that I believe has been purposely "erased".

Next month I have to go to Raleigh for my company training, and Im going to try and maybe dig up some more information. Perhaps the State Capital has copies of the files that have "mysteriously" dissapeared from down here
;)

Based on the older members of our family, the Boone's were a very strong Native American Family in the area. However, the local government, has for many years of "Discounting & Treating" them very bad... basically, because they were Native American.

They have always kept them confined to an area called "Boonetown" and for many years, this area was governed and maitained by their own inhabitants.

Even the local law enforcement wouldnt enter certain parts of Boontown.
Needless to say, the records (other than land records) are not located at the library or Court House.

Which is also why I wanted to do some deeper research into the Bennetts Creek Reservation. Based on the the information I have found, and the calculations. It appears that our home might also be located within the area of the historical reservation site.

Our neighbors have also found alot of arrowheads, pottery, ect... all around the fields and woods of our home/neighborhood.

Sorry, if I went into more than you were asking :o), But Im really interested in finding more about the Bennetts Creek Rez and Families. :D
Thanks for the idea

Thanks for the Link. I checked it out. I found a few things that were pretty useful in pointing into some possible leads. Some of it pointed more so to the Boone's of Daniel Boone (no Relation) :)

But I always appreciate any useful research links that I can get my hands on ! :)
