Cherosage,
Is this Monogalia a town or are you referring Monogahela, which is now in WV?
My family lives in what is part of the Monogahela Natl. Forest.

Thanks for getting with me. I am just not sure. The info just said Monongalia VA. I'm not sure if it was an area, County or a town.
I have an Edward Sams about 1753 married to a Lydia from Loudoun Co. VA. Seems as though I have several families unrelated until a lot closer to my generation from this general area.
I have no idea of anything about this area of the world. The closest I've been is at Ft Benning and Ft McClellan. I have a Great Uncle and Aunt who live in the Huntsville area. I may be able to help on this side of the river but nothing in the east.
Again, Thanks. Is this an NDN area? Seems as though these dog gone NDN's just keep popping up. HAHAHA Or I should say these Euro's keep mixing better. Bob

In the Northern most part of WV, there is a county by the name of Monogalia, the Monogahela River runs through...I can only think it is a variant on the name. Here is a link to WV maps...http://geology.com/state-map/west-virginia.shtml
You are talking about the 1700's, It would have been VA then I think. I will have to check counties for this time period.

You might try Dave Osborne, who has posted a number of things about the Sams family on GenForum. For his address, do the same trick I mentioned yesterday on your Murrel family query, but do it here:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Monongalia::sams::1295.html
It looks to me as if the family he works on (Edward Sams and wife Lydia) moved from Hanover Co. PA to Monongalia Co. VA sometime after 1775 and before 1789. Maybe. Also there was an Elias Sams in Loudon County, VA. No proven connection between the two, that I saw on GenForum in a quick glance.
There was no state of West Virginia until 1863.
Both of you have been leaving out an N in MonoNgahela and MonoNgalia. I just mention it, because if you Google on a word, you will get more hits if you spell it right.

Gosh Pappy, you are so right...well, you should hear me try to pronounce it. However, It is one of the most beautiful places...Monongahela Natl. Forest that is. My family lives in the Richwood area and I have stood waist deep in the Cherry fishing for trout, what a thrill.
Thanks for the correction:)

Well, shucks, ma'am. I just misspelled Hanover. [Edit. Cuss.]
