Hello Everyone,
I'm new here & after reading many of the posts, very glad to be here!! I've been doing some research on my family history and I've been looking into the Blackfoot and came across this website.
It's been passed down word of mouth throughout my father's side of the family that we have Native Roots decending from possibly Blackfoot/Cherokee. Me & my father share the same connection with this heritage. Both of us have very distinct facial features and skin tone. Not that it really means much, but I get asked a lot what my Nationality is. People can't quite figure me out. I usually say I'm American, but I have Native Roots somewhere! We attend the yearly pow-wow's in Richmond. We definitly identify ourselves as proud decendents of Native Americans, but we are both looking to learn more which is why we are looking into our family's history. We are also looking to possible connect with others like us. We may not know the specifics or be able to prove our bloodlines. Anyone ever heard of the Continental Confederation of Adopted Indians? I've found a physical address but no website. I hear it's an accepting community for those like me. Which is what I'm looking for. I'd like to try to find my own history but I'd also like to connect with a group of people I can learn from. I feel like it's an important part of who I am & something I should learn not only for myself, but hopefully it can be something I can pass on to my children.
If anyone might have any info regarding the following names, please let me know.
Gray, Stokes, Irving, Cannon, Craft
My research is showing my family has ties with Cumberland, Wise, Hamilton, Henrico, Ware, Glouster, Pulaski, Fluvanna, Palmyra, Northumberland and Lovingston counties in VA.
It's really great to be here. I look forward to talking with you all!
