I am looking to find links to my G.G. Grandmother, She is said to have been 1/2 Blackfoot and records show she was born in North Carolina around 1829. Her name was Letta Eades. If anyone has any hints please let me know. John in Indiana.

Hi, John,
A quick check turned up nothing so she may have married before 1850.
Do you know who she married and where they went?

Hi Bill,

I know she married John Bell, in Switzerland Co., IN in 1842. I just cannot find any info on Her youth, or birth, in North Carolina previous to 1842.

John,
Per Indiana State Library:
John Bell m'd Lydia Eads, 10 Nov 1842, Switzerland Co., Ind.

The Eads/Eades in Switzerland and the adjoining township of Milton Twp in Jefferson Co., Ind, appear to be the descendants of:
William E. Eads, b.1780 (Amherst ? Co) Va
d. 17 May 1865 Fairfield Twp, Howard Co., In
and lived in Jefferson Co., In;
m'd (1st) 10 July 1802 Amherst Co., Va
Jimima ("Mina/Miner") Williams, b. abt. 1785 Va
d. abt. 1850 Jefferson Co., In.
This William E. m'd (2nd) 15 Jan 1843 Jeff. Co., In
Sarah Orem, b. abt. 1811 Md, d. ?

Many of William E. Eads' children were born in Stokes Co., NC, as was his son William, b. abt. 1808 Stokes Co., NC, who had an unnamed daughter who was born about 1830 Stokes Co., NC, who may - but not proven - to be Lydia/Letty - just a possibility for you to check out because there is quite a bit of coincidence when comparing dates and locations.

In 1850, John and Lydia Bell were living in Hamilton Co., In with sons Marcus D. L. Bell, b. abt. 1848 In; and James Henry Bell, b.abt. 1850 In.
In 1870 Howard Co. (2 counties north of Hamilton), In, "M.D.L. Bell, 22, b. In", was working/living in the household of "P. Stain, 55, m, W, Brick Mason, $0, Penn" ; and "L.C., 41, f, W, NC." Their oldest child is "A.M., 11, f, W, Ind".
I have not been able to find John Bell after the 1850 census, so the "L.C., 41, NC" may be Lydia, but don't know that for a fact.

Bill,

Thanks for the lead. I had not found the William Eades with an un-named female child born around 1830. I will definitly follow up on that. All of the the connections I have found so far match up. My G.G. grandfather was Jacob Stam (which you probably decifered as P. Stain) in the 1870 census. M.D.L. Bell, and M. Dallanty seem to be from previuos marriages of Letta. I find that she married John Bell in 1842, then Letta Bell married Dennis Dulanty in 1855 (Hamilton Co.), the Leaat Dulanty married Jacob Stam in 1857 in Howard Co. (L.C. Stam is acutally Letta Chisin). She is listed as Jacob Stams heir to his Civil War military pension. The lineage I have up to this point is fairly clear, now if I can just track her in early N.C., maybe I can find a link to the Blackfoot.

Things seem to line up, so I will search William Eades in Stokes Co., N.C.

Thanks,

John
