HAMLIN FAMILY
1. William Hamlin, born say 1728, and his wife Lucy were living in Henrico County on 1 November 1756 when the court ordered the churchwardens to bind out their "Mulatto" son Arthur [Minutes 1752-5, 52]. They were the parents of
i. Arthur, born say 1750.
ii. ?Joseph, born before 1776, head of a Charles City County household of 3 "other free" in 1810 [VA:957].
Wow i finally figured how to do this!
William Hamlin/Hamblen is in my direct line on my Grandpa Hamblen's side.
Does this mean that Arthur became a slave? From what i get here he could have been Indian or not. Can anyone help with this. Maybe this is my first reassurance that the stories are true.
Sad note maybe lost a very long post on this lineage but maybe Lind or Bill can help. More documentation of this whole line.
Waiting for feed back.
Thanks,
Janette

John and George Combs often appear in Thomas Tabb's list (Raleigh parish, between Deep and Flatt Creeks) in the early Amelia tax lists. These records also show that Thomas and Agnes MARKHAM, Daniel HAMLIN/HAMBLEN (from Charles City Co. line of HAMBLENS), and Frederick BLAKE were neighbors and associates of John Combs. Are any known to be Indian????
All this will make more sense when my lost post of the linage is brought back but will proceed and list some of the info again:
Henry Hamblen
England no dates or town
Daniel Sr Hamlin/Hamblen
Abt 1699 westchester England
Married: Elizabeth {Betty) Crook (Indian???)
Brunswick
no dates
Daniel showed up on land patents Prince Edward , Nottoway Va as early as 1731 on and around Flat Creek --- One of my questions goes out to those knowing about maps and locations. The Saponi Cabins (on forum) were on Flat Creek also a Sweat House. How close are they to Daniels land.
Is his wife Ellizabeth Crook Indian?? She is on a list presented here by Collins naming her as living in an Indian Village. That is as close as i have come to identify her as such. Is it the Same Betty crook???
His friend and neighbor William Sizemore did business together with land purchases too. Do we know for sure Willliam Sizemore Indian??? He is also researched here.
John Sr. Hamblen
B. 1725 Prince Edward Va Nottoway VA
D.?
Married to Elizabeth Watkins (many researching Watkins here Indian??)
Her Father: John Watkins
Her Mother: ?
Grandfather: John SR.Watkins
Grandmother: E. Parker
no dates yet
William Sr Hamblen (The William father of Mulatto child Aurthor in above post)
Abt: 1750 Prince Edward , Nottoway VA
D. ?
Married: Sally Geers
B. Abt: 1760 Prince Edward, Nottoway VA
D. Abt: 1850
So that will do for now. Bill if both these posts belong on History it wont hurt my feelings but thought you might want to see the lineage an help fill in the blanks too, Appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Janette,
The long post you made is probably 'gone' and you'll have to repost the info.
Break it up into smaller parts.
Genealogy research and questions should be posted here as you did.
re: Arthur.
Do the court minutes say why Arthur was bound-out (indentured)?
If you're working from a citation only, you may want to see if you can find an abstract of the court minutes.
If Arthur is cited as 'mulatto' in the court minutes, he may be Indian.
Have you found Arthur at a later date?
re: The Betty Crook who marr'd James Love.
The Betty Crook previously posted here lived in Free Town, per the 1810 Brunswick Co., Va Census, so it looks like she is a different person that the one who marr'd James Love, b.abt. 1720.
I'm not familiar with any of the other names you listed in that time period and area, but if unresearched, who knows?

Bill,
I could not find the court abstract on Arthur yet but will keep looking. What you see is a a copy as written with minimum info really. Will stay with it but time is short today through Monday. Have not had time to search him in relation to my Daniel Woodson Holland Hamblen. This Daniel is my gggrandfather and have a lot on him. Arthur would be his brother but most of the time he does not show up.
Also check history thread related to E. Parker... Married to John Watkins parents of my Elizabeth Watkins married to John SR. Hamblen. A bit more there. I will eventually get to the posting of what i have on the whole Hamblen/Hamlin line.
thanks,
Janette
