Shirley,
Tried to send you an email, but your email address doesn't work. Never heard of a plantation called Mattaponi. A Mr. William Harrison, our 9th President, was born in Charles City Co, Va., he is not Indian. Born 1773, died 1841. He fought against Indians in the 1790's, extracted (stole) millions of acres of land from the Indians. Also fought in the battle of Tippecanoe, Nov. 1811. Became President in 1840, died of pnemonia a month later. I am not saying this is the same William Harrison you are speaking of.
I am a descendant of the Garrett family, thought I would share since this is one of the surnames you are interested in. Also the Mattaponi Indian Reservation in Virginia, is the oldest reservation in the country.
If the above information regarding William Harrison is incorrect, then I am sorry, as it came from the internet.

CoheeLady, I'm descended from some Garretts too! And you're in VA? How cool is that? So, there are still people of Tuckahoe descent living in VA? I know that's a silly question, but I'm curious to hear about it... http://winwinworld.net/SaponiForum/UBB/smile.gif

The VA Harrisons were a very large and prominant colonial family that dates back to the mid 1600's. They are connected to the Eppes, Bollings, Carters, etc. They were one of the "James River Plantations" families. They were also very heavily involved with the NDN trade. Trading not only furs but the NDNs themselves. They owned a number of "slaves" (most were native) and it is this group that follows the migration route into TN and KY. If you send me some of your lines from VA, I'll let you know what route if any to follow in the Old Dominion.
