I was wondering if anyone has info on who was living NW North Carolina in the area of Watauga, Ashe, Wilkes, and Surry counties in in the mid to late 1700's. About 1770 or a little before is when they moved to the Tennessee side. I believe it was a 1760s census I found my Meade family listed as free persons of color 'fpc'. Any Indians in the area at that time? I do know there are Meades and Hodges (who Meades married) are on old Cherokee Rolls. I also found information on my Boyd family. Part of the Treaty of New Echota involved the courtcase US vs Boyd..which allowed Cherokees unwilling to move to stay in the area. Just curious about the location since it is a ways from Qualla. Thanks.
Chad

I'm not big on Western NC, I've just heard Cherokee and Catawba. Who were the Watauga? That's one of the counties out there. Who knows about Western NC history.
