I am doing research on our family and am trying to establish our Native American connections. So far this has been an impossible task. I am from upstate New York and have researched the obvious tribes from our area without any luck. My G grandfather Miner Pauth who was married to Catherine Arnold told a member of the family that he was a Blackfoot Indian when they asked. Miner's mother and father were Charles Pauth and Belle Mansfield, this is where I believe the connection is. Belles parents are listed in the 1860 census as John and Sara Mansfield and Belle is listed as Asabella. They were living in Little Falls, NY at the time. I can not find any information beyond this point. He was very proud of his heritage and my aunt, who is 84 years old and is the only living member of the family, remembers that when she was about 11 years old that the indians would come to his home in traditional dress to sell medicine to the people in town. This was in the town of Mohawk, New York. If anyone has any information on these families I would greatly appreciate it....Thanks, George

What has your research told you about the Algonquin (regular) Blackfoot in Canada? Were they ever found that far east? That would be Iroquois country, and a large segment of the Eastern Siouan (that we're researching here) did refugee to the Iroquois in NY state about 1740. I'll send you some 1800 census for Cayuga and Oneida counties with names believed to have derived from Eastern Siouans.
