Thought it would be less confusing to just start another thread to post this. There is much information to be searched on these names already, but, am adding a sibling line.

James W. Whitefield (born 5/17/1810, died 11/3/1858) married Jennet Brown on 12/9/1835. Witnesses were: John Whitefield, Wm. Whitefield. Now in the paperwork I have, I found two children listed for them: Parm Pucket "Pea" Whitefield (born 6/2/1853, died 3/2/1925) and Martha.

James W. is the son of James Towler Whitefield and Susannah Minchew Whitefield. The other siblings are: William (my direct line), Mary, Minchew, George, Thomas, John, Jefferson, and Edwin. Susannah was James' first wife. She died and he married Elisabeth Roberson. James, Susannah, and Elisabeth are buried in the Frank Whitefield cemetery in Bushy Fork, Person Co, NC.

James Towler Whitefield was born 5/17/1777 in Goochland Co, VA. He died 4/14/1850 and is buried in Person co. He bought land in Bushy Fork in 1798. He married Susannah Minchew on 6/4/1798. Susannah was born 5/15/1773 and died 5/3/1832 and is also buried in Person co.

James Towler's parents are William Whitefield and Mary Towler. They married 12/14/1772 in Goochland, VA. William was born 1/?/1751 and died 9/?/1835/. Mary Towler came from Goochland, VA as well.

Now for the interesting part: Minchew, Mincy line.
A website called Sally's place lists Child of Judah Mincy of Person co, NC will 1806 (Judith Minchew)
1. Thomas Minchew married Mary Cates in 1795.
a. Susannah Minchew
b. Phillip Mincy 1796 Williamson Co, TN
2. Amy or Imy Minchew

Now things here are kinda skewed....since Susannah was born 1773. I think the Cates part may be right since we know there were Cates in that area at that time, but, don't think he is Susannah's father.

From the Person County North Carolina Compilations book (actual will is State Archives): March Court 1807, page 215 - Judith Minchew - will - dated 12 Dec. 1806. son, Thomas; granddaughter Susannah Minchew; daughter Lucy Minchew. Exec: son Thomas. Wit: John Gooch, Sen., Solomon Cate, Joseph Gooch, Jun.

Guess I will need to actually get a copy of the will to see what it actually states. Hope this will help you, Felton, in your ancestor search. I enjoyed meeting you today and if there's anything I can look up...just holler or email.

Thanks for the info and the help at the courthouse. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of free time searching there. I never thought I could get that much help at a courthouse without paying a bunch of money to a lawyer...lol.

Well, that's a good thing about living in a small county.....people are still willing to help for no charge. And I didn't even take you over to the office across the hall and show you the old marriage records..which are fascinating. And there are old wills and deeds and such in the Clerk of Court's office...and they will be glad to show you where they are so you can do research there as well. It's amazing to me how some times you can uncover a piece of the puzzle in the most obscure place to get to the next level....kinda like an old fashioned video game....without the frills but with all the thrills. We will more than likely be out this weekend scouting cemeteries, so give us a call if you are in the area.

p.s. The library is also a good source of information. In the NC room there are lots of good books with family history and census records...so check that out, too....bad thing is...it's not open on Sunday.

Thanks, Bill...will add that to my information. There were many Cates and Browns living in "Orange Co", on the edge near Hurdle Mills, which is now Person county. Not sure right now which area was Capt. Lyon's.

The question is, Was Juda(h) Minshew, mother or father of Thomas and Amy. I have found it both ways which raises a lot of questions. As for the Will of Max, it only identifies Juda as a child. ????
