It kind of looks like dried tobacco leaves hanging down. Just my two cents:)

I actually think they are feathers...they are too small for tobacco leaves. And tobacco leaves are pretty fragile when they dry, aren't they?

That is true....I just thought they looked like "baby" dried tobacco.

Hi Tom, I'm thinking these must be feathers since is seems that leaves would dry up, crack and break off. Just MHO.

Yes, that's how Sadie's skirt looks that I fringed with feathers. (Of course her skirt is much more substantial.) Those are definitely feathers, I would say.

I've been doing some reading about Native American clothing from the 1600's and according to "Women in American Indian Society," by Rayna Green, and "Virginia Native peoples," by Karla Smith, tobacco leaves were used among some Native American women.

One thing you might consider here is pieces of fur, such as rabbit or a small animal's tail. Fur when cut in ovals or strips, will curl up somewhat and will look different after being wet. Fur was used alot to trim garments , especially in the cooler weather months. Tails, faces and feet were often used as decoration, also. Just an idea!
