Does anyone know of any stomp dances that nontribal members can attend?

The only people I knew who were doing any were down in Robeson county, but that was not open to the public.

Those of us in southside Virginia have been trying to learn a few, but it's slow going.

Thanks for the reply. Since we do not attend our tribal functions anymore it is really hard to give up things that mean so very much to you. Stomping has become sort of a "lost art" if you will, if you know what I mean. I will continue to search. I`ve been reading on your site about different things from postings and it seems to be a lot of nice folks here. May God Bless, until next time. Sakkwa

Hey Sakkwa, well I have no idea where you are located but your interest in stomp dancing is really refreshing, and I do think that if you know how to stomp dance then you should look at finding like minded people, and build a stomp grounds, ask for approval from the local folks near you, there should be Elders near you traditional maybe, look around and start a group!

Thanks for the reply Tom. I live on the Peaks of Otter, Bedford Va. Land where my family has been since migrating from the north in the 1700`s. Also the site of an ancient Tutelo village, Now under water, being preserved forever I pray. We have been members of a shawnee tribe from maryland for many years. Recently, our beloved chief passed and the tribe has split several ways, much to our dismay. This happens alot in our culture, read the history. Shawnee can`t even get along with each other. You should be at a council meeting. We have decided not to return for various reasons. It is very hard to find like minded folks. I`m a very staunch traditionalist, not moving very far from what I was taught by elders long ago. This makes it somewhat difficult. I`m coming out.. slowly. I`m trying. Tom we live in one of the most racist states there is, and most of it comes from within our own circle. i appologize for rambliing, I`m still searching. God Bless, I`ll send more later.
