I found this site while looking for info on the black dutch. I don't know if this is where I need to be looking but it can't hurt to ask. My maternal granmother was a McGowen with her ansecters migrateing from MD to NC to TN to MO. She looks Indian but if asked insists that there is no indian in her family she is black dutch. Also her father is very dark and looks part black. I guess i just want to know if there is a connection.

I have been told that Black Dutch, doesn't mean African American, as the "black" stands for American Indian. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!

read some where it was the cherokee and creek mostly that used black dutch.
