Glad to see you were able to post, Nyoka. Are you aware of how frequently the Collins name comes up around here? If not, use the search feature on the top nav bar and see what I mean. One of members, Collins, knows a lot about the TX Collins. Use the members button at the top to get to his profile. You can email him from there.

Welcome aboard.

Nyoka,
Creed Collins was living next door to John Kimmy on the 1820 Washington Co., Ga Census with Creed's last name misspelled as "Callens" on the census index. Both households are in 1830 Dale Co., Ala.
I think both Creed and Obedience (Beady) were born in Hillsborough District, Orange Co., NC. Creed is listed as 73, b. NC on the 1850 Newton Co., Tx census and Lydia, 70, also b. NC, who may be a LACY.

Also in 1830 Dale Co., Ala is a Merrill Collins, b.abt. 1781 "Wake" (but prob. lived in Orange) Co., NC, who is purported to be the son of Andrew Collins, b. 18 Feb 1740 NC, d. April 1791 Hillsborough District NC, and Martha _?_, b.abt. 1740, d. 16 Nov 1800.
Andrew and Martha are purported to have had a son named Creed, b.abt. 1777, whose wife was Lydia Lacy whose daughter "Beady" b. 8 Feb 1801 NC, d. 6 Jan 1838 Dale Co., Ala., as the wife of John Kimmey.
I think the relationship of Merrill and Creed is probably accurate but their birth counties may seem somewhat confused due to the changes in county boundaries. Example: an Andrew Collins is on the 1784 Johnston Co., NC Tax List, not Orange or Wake, but this should give you a clue or two to check further.

I could be wrong, but I suspect your James Ward is not related to the Wards in Dale and Henry counties. The Wards in 1830 Henry and 1840 Dale Co., Ala., passed thru Twiggs Co., Ga where some were married in the 18-teens, and are on the earlier 1810 Lexington District of SC Census. Their descendants purport most were born in Edgefield and earlier Orangeburg Districts of SC with the older ones born in Virginia in the mid-1700s. I was able to verify enough of this info to support the Ga and SC claims but could not verify the Virginia part of the story, but James is not claimed by any of these SC lines in their research.

In 1850 Coffee Co., Ala, James Ward, 38, is listed as born in NC.
Also there, is John (S. ) Ward, 33, b. NC. Both are also listed in 1860 Coffee as b. NC. James and several of his grown children's households are listed twice on the 1880 Coffee Co. census, once as b. NC and once as b. SC.
I suspect James and John are related and were from NC but can't prove it.

On the 1900 Coffee Co., Ala census, John M. Moore, b.Mar 1876, 24, is listed as born in Ala with his father b. Ga & mother b. Ala (if the dash was used in this case as a 'ditto' mark).
On the 1880 Coffee Co., Ala census, John Moore, 4, b.ala, is the 'son' of Wm. H. Moore, 30 (b.Dec 1848, marr'd 29 years per 1900 census) , b. Ga, and both his parents also b. Ga. Martha, 30 (b.Feb 1848, m'd 29 yrs, 12 children, 11 children living, per 1900 census) , 'wife', b. Ala, as were both of her parents.
On the 1900 census, Martha is listed as b. Florida with both parents b. Ala, so I don't know where Martha was actually born.

All of the above people were listed as white on all census records which may or may not be accurate, but they were perceived to be white in a number of different locations.
