Hey, I wrote my first post yesterday and Techteach answered and suggested that I post names and dates in this thread. I have just been researching my mother's side of the family about 6 months. It has taken a few unexpected turns, but the one thing I expected to find was the Native American connection. I know it's there, but where is the question. As the story went, we have a Blackfoot Indian maiden that married a Cox from TN. In later years my mother's only brother said not Blackfoot it's Cherokee. So now with everyone gone except myself and two brothers (who remember about the same as me) I decided to find out for myself. For the purpose of research I am just going to list my mother's side that is the connection.
Starting with my me:
Debra Lynn McNulty - b. 3 October 1956 Independence, MO
Bonnie Maxine Blakesley - b. 3 October 1918 Independence, MO
Una Belle Barker - b. 16 August 1893 Deepwater, Henry, MO
Now I will list both sides because from this point I don't were the Native American comes in at.
Una parents:
Thomas Lawson Barker - b. 24 October 1862
Ida May Cox - b. 1875
Thomas L. Barker parents:
William Barker - b. 1812 VA
Mary J. Moore - b. 1828 Maryland
Ida May Cox parents:
Henry Cox - b. 1829 ILL
Mary Catherine Harvey b. 1844 KY
Henry Cox parents:
William Cox - b. 1804 NC (not sure on birthplace)
Jane Hohimer - b. 1801 KY
Mary C. Harvey parents:
Henry Harvey- b. 1827 KY
Debby Harvey - b. 1828 TN (This name bothers me because later I find Henry with Julia as wife and Mary named one of her daughters Julia)
William Cox parents are unknown at this time and Jane Hohimer father was Henry Hohimer b.1758 place unknown
Well this is all I have, if anyone has any ideas about these names or where to go from here let me know. Thanks Deb Simkin

p.63
Wm COX = 111001-210001-0-0. He's 30 to 39.
Henry COX = 10001-11001-0-0. He's 20 to 29.
John HOHAMMER = 00001-001-0-0. He's 20 to 29.
p.61
Archabald COX = 1120001-2120101-0-0. He's 40 to 49.
p.48
Chaslian (prob. Chas. Lyon?) COX = 0112001-0101001-0-0. He's 40 to 49.
William Cox was in Missouri in 1850 and 1840 and he's listed as born in Illinois abt. 1804.
On the 1830 Illinois census, there are only 3 Hohammer/Hohamer/Hohimer households in Illinois and all of them appear on the same page 201, next door to each other, in Sangamon Co., Ill.
Line 7: William Hohimer = 210001-01001-0-0. He's 30 to 39.
Line 8: Henry Hohimer = 10001-10001-0-0. He's 20 to 29.
Line 9: Elizabeth Hohimer - 00210-00110001-0-0. She is 50 to 59.
on line 14:
William COX = 20001-00001-0-0. He's 20 to 29.
Elizabeth Sidebottom (the Elizabeth above), b. 1770's prob. Va; d. abt 1835, m'd 29 Aug 1799 Green Co., Ky, Henry Hohimer, b.abt. 1758; d. 29 Nov 1823 Green Co., Ky, his 2nd wife.
By his 1st wife Rhoda Parris/Ferris, his son William C. Hohimer, b.abt. 1798, lived in Sangamon Co., Ill (that's the William listed in the 1830 census), d. 1871 Menard Co., Ill.
By his 2nd wife Elizabeth, there were 8 children. I'll list info for the four that tie back to Jane Hohamer who m'd William Cox.
Henry, b. 29 Jun 1804 Green Co., Ky, m'd abt 1826 Sangamon Co., Ill Elizabeth Ferguson, b. 1803 Ky - their 1st 3 children b. Sangamon Co., Ill.
He's the Henry in the 1830 census above.
Jane, b. 4 Mar 1806 Green Co., Ky; d. 17 Oct 1873 Benton Co., Mo;
m'd 1st abt 1827 John Hornbuckle, prob. son of James, b. in 1760's.
m'd 2nd on 30 Jul 1829 Sangamon Co., Ill, William Allen COX. This is the William Cox on the 1830 Sangamon census above.
Susannah/Susan, b.abt. 1811 Green Co., Ky; m'd on 1 Nov 1832 in Sangamon Co., Ill, Henry COX, b.abt. 1805, Ill. They are HH 320 on the 1850 Benton Co., Mo census listed above. I think this Henry Cox is William's brother.
Joseph, b. 1813 Green Co., Ky; d. abt. 1863 Mo;
m'd 1st on 18 Sep 1834 in Sangamon Co., Ill; Edith (Eady) Curry, b. 1817 Ky; d. 1852 Benton Co., Mo. They are HH 318 on the 1850 Benton Co., Mo census listed above.
In 1830 Sangamon Co., Ill, there is a Samuel COX and wife, both in 50's, who have Free Persons of Color in their household. No other Cox in Sangamon Co is old enough to be William Cox's parent. Still verifying.
Henry Bushong Harvey's parents are William Harvey, b. 20 Sep 1794 Surry Co., NC (birthplace still needs verifying) ; d. 7 Apr 1859 Monroe Co., Ky; who m'd 23 Dec 1813 in Monroe Co., Ky, Mary G. BUSHONG, b. 13 Feb 1797 Ky; d. after 1860 Monroe Co., Ky. Mary "Harvy" a widow, lived next door to Henry and Deborah "Harvy" on the 1860 Monroe Ky Census.
The 1850 Census lists Henry Harvey, wife Debby, with Mary, 6, and Nancy, 1. Mary is not there in 1860 and I have no marr. record for this 1850-1860 period for Monroe Co., Ky.
On 1860 Monroe census Nancy is "N.J.", and is prob. the Nancy Harvey who m'd J. N. Bushong on 26 Sep 1865 in Monroe Co., Ky. There are two J.N. Bushongs on the 1860 census who are the same age so couldn't figure out which one of them she married but in 1870 census, he's a John N., which may help.
This should help explain the Bushong granddaughter living with Henry and Judith Harvey on the 1880 Benton Mo census.
The Montgomery Harvey living near Henry and Judith Harvey in 1880 Benton Co., is prob the "M. J., male, 4, Ky" in Henry's HH in 1860 Monroe Co., Ky.
I have a lot more detail on the other lines but have ran out of time for now.
Bill
