I was told as a child that there was Blackfoot on my father's side. No one seems to know for sure. While researching my father's name of Garner, I learned that in my direct line a Garner married a Dodd in Fauquier county, Va. Circa mid 1700's. I found a reference that stated that "the Dodd's were known to be a Saponi-Blackfoot family". Does anyone have anything on the Dodds? I would be greatful for any information. Other surnames in my father's line are Davis, Green, Shelton, Hamilton, James and Parker.
Thank you,
Diane Dross

The information you got about the Dodd name being Blackfoot interesting. Do you remember where you heard it?

Parker can be found among Saponii famillies according to a list I have. James is on that list as possibly Meherrin. Parker is a Saponi possible. By possible I mean, those names have been associated with families who either suspect or know they are descended from that tribe. Some may even have proof. They are of course, common names, so they could theoretically by anything, but it's a place to start. Garner is also on that list, but no tribe is specified.

I thought that I had found that info on the Dodd or Garner message board in one of the genealogy forums. Thought that I had saved it. Now, of course, I can't find it. I will keep looking.
