I am looking for information about my ancestry. It was hushed through the years that we were Melungeon. My family is from the New River Area of Virginia. Milliton Collins was my GGG-Grandfather. He died in 1840 and was born around 1775. In papers I have seen his name was spelled various ways. I have not made the connection but I believe he was related to Thomas Collins that was part Saponi Indian and move from Louisa,Va to North Carolina. I have always been told that I was related to every Collins in the New River area of Virginia. I remember my Great Aunts Had very dark complection and straight dark hair. I am very interested in making any connection about my family History or my Indian Heritage.

Lester,
Welcome.
Post your genealogical information down in the genealogy section and see if Bill can help you.
Also, Collins who posts on this board, has a lot of Collins information.

Lester, you are probably related to my Collins family if all your Collins came from the New River area. Were they in Ashe or Wilkes Counties, N.C.?
If you want I can post your family tree information over at the Collins Family site and see what they can find.

Lester; I don't know if this will help, but my 5th greatgrandfather Ben Green had two neighbors around 1796. One was Micajah Bunch and another was Milliton Collins. This was on land that had previously been a grant to my 6th greatgrandfather John Rice. John Rice had been a part of the "Longhunter" community of Wm. Blevins and Elisha Wallin's. First from the Smith River (1767) in present Henry Co. Va. and then around Elk Creek (1770's) on the New River in present Grayson Co. Va.
Part of the grant; "...on the waters of Joseph Wallings Mill Creek, a branch of the Clinch River and beginning at a poplar and dogwood, being a corner of Micajer Bunch claim, then running along the Bunch line." As I understand it, a Milliton Collins is also mentioned.
It is in Hawkins Co. Tn., just called Mill Creek now, and is just down the Clinch River, and on the south side, from Kyle's Ford.
