I have been seeing my mother's maiden name all over this forum lately. My mother is a Rogers. Have any of you Rogers descendents traced your Rogers back to Edgecombe County NC, Northampton County or Bertie County? I am looking for a Jesse and Trusse Rogers. I need the names of the children of these 2 men. I would also like knowledge of their wives too. It is my understanding that Jessee Rogers married Denise Bass have any of you seen this too? There is another I am intersted in he was Francis jenkins aka Rogers he was called a mustee in Nash County NC in the mid 1700's. Mustee would mean ndn and white. Heck I heard that word when I was growing up in Edgecombe County.

Hi Linda,

What timeframe are you looking for for Jesse Rogers?

Here is what I know on my Rogers line. (Nathan Rogers and Nancy Peacock are my 4GGrandparents. Their daughter Margaret is my 3GGrandmother.) Nathan Rogers was born about 1780 in North Carolina. Nancy Peacock was born about 1795 in North Carolina. In the 1830 census, they were in Davidson County, which was formed in 1822 from Rowan County. I know this is a little further west than where you were looking, but this is the earliest I can track this line. I don't know where they were at prior to the 1830 census and didn't know if their son Jesse's name would help you. I haven't even been able to find a marriage record/bond for Nathan and Nancy.

Children of NATHAN ROGERS and NANCY PEACOCK are (names proven by Nathan's will):
(1) HARRISON ROGERS, b. Abt. 1813, North Carolina
(2) SUSANNAH ROGERS, b. 13 Jan 1814, North Carolina
(3) PHEBE ROGERS, b. Abt. 1815, North Carolina
(4) JESSE J. ROGERS, b. 01 Nov 1816, North Carolina
(5) ELIZABETH ROGERS, b. Abt. 1817, North Carolina
(6) NANCY ROGERS, b. Abt. 1822, North Carolina
(7) NATHAN RILEY ROGERS, b. Abt. 1826, North Carolina
(8) MARGARET ROGERS, b. Abt. 1828, (possibly Davidson County), North Carolina
(9) WILLIAM ROGERS, b. Bet. 1830 - 1840, North Carolina
(10) ELI ROGERS, b. Abt. 1834, North Carolina
(11) GEORGE ROGERS, b. Abt. 1837, Henry County, Indiana
(12) MATTHEW "MATT" ROGERS, b. 17 Mar 1840, (possibly Hancock County), Indiana
(13) LEVI ROGERS, b. 16 Mar 1839, (possibly Hancock County), Indiana

1830 Federal Census:
Not Stated, Davidson County, North Carolina; page 202 (31 & 32 of 148)
Nathan Rogers (10 total)
1 white male under 5 --> Nathan Jr. (4)
1 white male 10 to 15 --> Jesse (12)
1 white male 15 to 20 --> Harrison (18)
1 white male 50 to 60 --> Nathan (50)
1 white female under 5 --> Margaret (2)
1 white female 5 to 10 --> Nancy (8)
2 white females 10 to 15 --> Phoebe (15), Elizabeth (13)
1 white female 15 to 20 --> Susannah (16)
1 white female 30 to 40 --> Nancy (35)

I am talking more around 1770-1790 but this may help you many names you have in your family these Rogers lines also have so I would check Edgecombe County for your Rogers if i were you.

Hi Bill,

If you get a chance, could you look through your resources for a marriage record for Nathan Rogers and Nancy Peacock. Their first child was born about 1813, so some time in that timeframe. One of their children's death record did list Nancy's name as Mary. I haven't been able to find anything on Ancestry.com. I am hoping this might help me locate them in the earlier census records.

Chwe'n Linda,
Do you have Bass lines also. I have a Madora(Lucy) Bass in my line as well as Elizabeth Crumer Bass, both from Norfolk County Va.
