I saw Barry Carter's post on the Southside mailing list, and he suggested I join this list. I am looking for more information on my Native american connevtions.
Family legend has it that my ggggrandmother, Mariah STEWART, was half Native
American. She is the daughter of Billy (William?) Stewart and Lucinda
(maiden name unknown). She was born in Powhatan County about 10/1845 and
died 5/29/1925 in Richmond VA. Siblings are: Mary Elizabeth, Martha,
Matilda, Henry, Nancy, and Susan. She married John Allen Turner( no known
NA connection) of Manchester, Chesterfield County about 1867.
Another ancestor stated to be part native American is my gggrandmother Denia Dangerfield Gray, daughter of Burrell and Nancy Howard of Halifax County. Denia was
born abt 1862 and died 4/10/14 in Richmond. All known info was obtained from her death certificate.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
