I've posted here before, asking about a McGuire connection, but it occurs to me that because my Blackfoot link is matrilineal, I should ask if anyone knows of a band that would have been in or passing through SW IL or SE MO around 1837-1838, when my gr-grandmother was born. Her father was a McGuire, probably William, her mother may have been called "Martha", as that's what she named her 2 daughters (one died in infancy).

My group came to MO (Pulaski County, MO) about 1830. Maybe you could look in that county or all of those along the route. http://www.census-online.com/links/MO/
At that time, I think there was a trail that ran from Cape Girardeau to about Steelville, where it picked up the Old Wire Road (telegraph route), which later became part of Route 66. From Steelville it headed southwest through Rolla, Waynesville, Lebanon, and on to Springfield.
That is the path the Cherokees took on the Trail of Tears through MO.
The Old Wire Road runs right in front of my grandpa's uncle's house and is still a gravel road there.

That sure fits. She and her brother were orphaned in Pulaski County before 1850. They were living with different guardian families on farms near Edgar Springs (which has since become part of Phelps County) at the time of that census. Thanks for the tip -- I'll check the 1830 and 1840 census.

I am pretty familiar with the area.
The 1830 MO Census is not available through the Pulaski Co link, but it is on the statewide link (but not for Pulaski Co).
Here it is...

The links here aren't working... http://www.accessgenealogy.com/census/missouri.htm
I have found a copy of the 1830 MO Census in the library in Waynesville, MO. Maybe you can give them a call and see if someone can look it up for you.

That's a mighty windy road from Cape to Steeleville. Pretty though. I used to drive it when I lived in Cape.
One member on this forum has Steeles with the Blackfoot ID. You wonder....
