I live in Brunswick county, Va, about 10 miles (as the crow flies) from the NC border.
Over the past 15 years or so, I have walked
a huge farm on the meherrin river in search of ancient relics. This past year or so, I
feel that I have come to know the people of the land here. Whenever I search for relics, there is never a question of IF I will find anything, but rather, HOW MUCH, and of WHAT QUALITY they will be. The area is so rich in
activity, it is unreal.
I want to know more about the people who lived here, and thier history. If you are willing to help, please write me. I have dated a lot of the material to the late Archaic period, through the Mississippian era. I have found broken pottery, knives, arrowheads, scapers, gravers, etc., and would like to help preserve and to educate people
about the indigenous people of this area.
Let me know what I can do, and help me with the history.

I am looking for a family by the name of Hardiman. They had ties in the Buckingham Co. Virgina area in the late 1700's and George Washington Hardiman died in Robertson County, Tennessee in 1851. He was married to Susan aka Sukie (no last name as of yet).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Amasai, somehow I missed your post back in May. If you'd like to see an account of the last days of the people who lived there, check out William Byrd's 'History of the Dividing Line betwixt VA and NC'

Be sure when you take any artifact that they're being given to you, that you are being called to look for them.

Amasai,
I agree with Linda, as to your artifact finds in Virginia. Please make sure that you properly store the artifacts, & take pictures of them. While looking for artifacts, if you come across a burial ground, take notes & pictures. If this area is so rich in artifacts, then there most likely would have been Indian burials. If I'm not mistaken there are laws protecting such sites, however Virginia seems to have one loop hole. If the area seems to have been used only as a temporary site then the state will just overlook the artifacts, as being unimportant, even though they work hard to collect & store them. If a road is being built & Indian artifacts are found, but only in a small number, then the area is deemed to be a temporary site. That's why it's important to log everything you have found, to protect this land in the future.
Sincerely,
CoheeLady
