I am from Alamance Co, N.C. and was told by my father that we were Blackfoot Indian. I grew up in Saxapahaw, N.C. and had A DNA test done and I am 20% Native American; however I have no true Idea of which Nation. I need help in identifing my Native American Ancestor. My family is found in Alamance co, Chatham co, Franklin co, Vance co, Person co's in N.C. Here are my family surnames: Coggins, McCabe, Ursery, Hudgins, Smith, Cates, Roach, Murphy, McBane, Lindsey, Jernigan, Foushee, Snipes, Lindly, Fulcher, Gregory, Dunn, Phenix, Leman,Roberson, Fuller, Hawkins, Brown, Martin, Lloyd, Morris. If anyone can help me in this matter I would greatly appriciate it!!!

It looks like you are in the right place if you are indeed Blackfoot.

From what I understand Blackfoot is another name for the Eastern Sioux, otherwise known as Saponi.

There are many people on here that know much more than I do about it though.

Roberson and Hawkins look to be familiar.

There are Robersons in Pulaski County, MO that appear to have followed in the same footsteps as my family coming from NC, to VA, to TN, and then on to MO.

You need to list the specific person's name for these surnames and any date or location you have for them, and I'm sure many people here will help you.

Welcome, LostIndian. You know, it's my belief that the town you're from, Saxapahaw, is Tutelo for "foot black." See what I wrote at www.saponitown.com/Blackfoot.htm. Also, Alamany county is where the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi are located, and a number of them that I've met have the Blackfoot ID in their families.
