Greetings:

I am in search of information that can be shared with me.

My gggrandfather was named Bill Richardson and his wife Arnell (unknown last name). I am assuming that they were from northeastern part of North Carolina/VA border.

My ggrandfather (Carey/Cary) has stated on my grandfather's (Walter)birth certificate that he was from Chattanon County in NC, however, I don't know where that is. Since, the counties of NC were changed. I am at a lost.

Carey/Cary married to Addie Montague from Wake County. My grandfather, Walter was born in Wake Forest, NC.

It is claim that the Richardson are Native American descendants along with our Africa American heritage. I am not certain whether we are part of the Haliwa-Saponi, Cherokee, Blackfoot or any of the other tribes from NC/VA.

I would appreciate any directions you can show me to continue my search.

Tee

Tee,
Welcome to our Saponi Forum. I'll be honest, your queery has me stumped. Let me dig around and see what I can find on the Richardsons. I believe they are part of the Haliwa-Saponi but let me check on that for you.

I'll keep you posted.

It seems like every other Haliwa Saponi I've heard of is named Richardson. The SE Indian surname list also shows it as Nansemond or Gingkassin. What stories are there in your family? I would think if you posed a question on the right genealogy forum someone could tell you about that county. Try searching on NC genealogy and see if any forums come up.

Hi Linda,

Thanks again for responding.

Unfortunately, I was not around my Gramps to really hear any stories about his family. I only met two of his sisters.

I have a picture of my Gramps with his Uncle Hoover Richardson. Also, I have picture of Grandpa Carey. No stories.

My Gramps didnot talk much.

It seem like everything was a secret or grown folk business.

Thanks again,
Tee
