Barry,

I have nothing more than "gut feeling" about the NA blood that has been passed down from my anscesters to me and from me to my children and 18 grandchildren. I feel they came from Colonial Virginia and altho I don't know which tribe they belonged to I feel the surnames COLLINS and SPENCER should be here from my father's side and PERRY and PATTERSON from my mother's.

Thank you for giving us a place to leave these names.

BTW I also have JONES in my line that link in with the Spencers
Brenda

Brenda a lot of us are in the same boat. But it does not matter now since we are working to put this puzzle with many missing pieces together. We'll work with what we have and build from that.

Subject: Indian Tribes of Virginia

My mother told of having an uncle who was an Indian who she described as a giant. This was near Galax, Grayson Co., Va. about 1910. After that they moved to Wayne Co., In. To be an actual uncle the name would have had to be paternal: Coomes, Davis, maternal: Fields, Holderfield, Davis,
Branson. Mom also named my sister Waneta which I have found means "little deer". I asked her about that and was told she had a little friend she liked and our Waneta was named for her.

Could these people be something other than Cherokee?

More than likely Saponi.....I would say more chance of being Saponi than
Cherokee considering they ended up in Wayne County. My question is, how far
is Wayne from Rush?

Sorry, I made one error in this. In the maternal line the name Davis
should be Brown. Here are the names:
Paternal: James T. Coomes, b 1817 married Amanda Davis in Ashe Co., NC.
resided in Surry Co. NC for a time then back to Grayson Co., Va.

Maternal:
My Grandmother was Celia Elizabeth Fields, her parents:
John Branson Fields and Celia Elizabeth Holderfield s/o
Isaac Isaiah Fields and Sarah B. Brown. (could the B. be for
Branson?) s/o
Benjamin Fields and Mary Weatherly s/o
Jeremiah Fields and Mary Elliott s/o
William Fields b (1698) and Jaine

Thank you very much for any help possible.

Patience

My grandfather is Giles Davis of Carroll County Virginia, he married Gracie Thomas, not sure where she is from, am assuming she was from Halifax, Va. They had 2 children. My aunt Ellen Davis Dickerson Dean also known as Helen Dean who is now presumed to lived in Bullock NC. She has numerous children from her married to Mr. Dickerson, none from Mr. Dean. Some of her children are: Polly, Peggy, John Wayne, Robert, Peter, Mary and Leanne. My father is Robert Jordan (pronounced Jerden) Algie Davis born July 13, 1936 in Halifax Virginia. Died August 16, 1989. He was supposedly named after ALL of his uncles. I do not know if the uncles were Davis or Thomas.
Giles Davis died when my father was approximately 8 yrs old. I've heard a couple of stories about my father after that...one being that my grandmother sold him to a couple because she could get more money for her male child than her female child. Another story told was that my father ran away and lived with a couple affectionately known as Uncle Tom and Mama Rose. Tom and Rosa were Glasscocks from near or around Virgilina Va.
