It is winter again and I hope that everyone is safe.
I have been researching and connecting the dots' so to speak when it comes to Eastern Siouan clothing etc.
In time I'll post womens and mens clothing styles.
Also I believe that there was a clothing style in VA. NC, that was much the same as other people. When did cloth repleace hide and feather mantles ? I'd say in less that one generation, how do we define a clothing style amde of cloth? by looking at close kins men in all directions and connecting the dots, long shirst north south and west of "US" probably means we had long shirts too.
Much of the current traditional clothing in southern tribes etc has come down as responces to Euro American style adaptations and responces to outside pressures, so native style clothing was amde from cloth and available sundries.
Over THE holidays I hope to add supportive links to this theory and in turn help our members develope a look that is ours.

The long shirt was worn as an every day part of clothing , and at any time in history, before or after the Euro's arrived, prior to the 1600s a shirt made of woven hair or vegetable fibres amy have been worn, or a hide shirt, after the Euro's arrived styles changed and people adapted, thus the cloth long shirt.
You may want to stick with this style and make it using old patterns or just re-cut a commercial patterns to fit your needs. Enjoy

Here is a link to Delaware mens clothing that has a simualr look to the Seminole long shirt, extreme North and extreme south points between probably had a very similar shirt style.
remember that when developing a style of clothing you may want to have an article that say's "Eastern Siouan", I'll try and deal with the last issue later but keep it in mind.
These long shirts are an old stle developed from both Native American and European clothing styles.

Tom,

On your first link above, if you go to the bottom of the page and click, Leather and Clothes Bibliography and Books to Buy On-Line, then go to the bottom again and click the link with the same name, it takes you to Barnes & Noble. They have a book called, Indian Clothing of The Great Lakes: 1740-1840. Sheryl Hartman and Monte Smith (Editor), Joe Lee (Illustrator), R.L. Smith(Illustrator), Greg Hudson(Illustrator) Published date, January, 1988. The format they have Hardcover/Paperback. If you click paperback they do have copies for, I think it was 13.99 or something. Down below where it describes the book Eastern Siouan is listed there. So this may be something to get a hold of. It also talks about finger weaving. I may have to get this!

Sounds good Lynella, it looks astho' the home land of the eastern Siouan people is getting some attention, which I hope will be a good thing.
This is about the 3rd book referenced on this web site, on this very topic!?
