MONROE COUNTY, OHIO HISTORY
1969 - Foreword
This is a history of most of the eighteen townships of Monroe County, Ohio. The material contained herein was accumulated from the "History of Monroe County, Ohio," by H.H. Hardesty & Co., Publishers, dated 1882, articles from various newspaper files, and items written by interested individuals. Collating and printing of the history was made possible by the efforts of Mr. Harold P. Haley, secretary of the Woodsfield Chamber of Commerce, Woodsfield, OH. Booklet compiled in Woodsfield during the year 1969.

ORGANIZATION:
On January 29, 1813 (that's one hundred and fifty-six years ago, as of 1969) an act was passed by the legislature to "erect the County of Monroe".

Section One provided that so much of the counties of Belmont, Guernsey, and Washington be and is hereby erected into a County by the name of Monroe.

Section Two provided for the appointment of commissioners to locate the County seat.

Section Six provided that the courts for the County should "be holden" at the house of Levin Okey until the permanent seat of justice should be established on the first day of March, 1815.

The greatest extent of the County East and West is twenty-six and one-half miles by twenty-two miles North and South and contains 470 square miles.

The County is watered by numerous streams. The Northwestern part of the County is drained by the branches of Wills Creek, viz: Seneca and Brister Fort's fork. The Southern part is drained by the Little Muskingum River and its branches, viz: Clear, Indian, Witten, Crane's Nest, Rich, Cronin, Straight, and Whitten forks. The Northern part and the Central part are drained by Sunfish Creek and its branches, viz: Baker, Grassy, Death, and Piney forks together with Standing Stone, Hurd, Fish Pot, Atkinson, Payne, and Negro Runs. The principal runs emptying into the Ohio River are: Big, Johnson, Cummings, Narrows, Bares, Davis or Patton's, Barnes, Millers, and James Runs, Cat's Run is a branch of Captina Creek.

EARLY SETTLEMENTS:
The first permanent settlement of which there is authentic history was made in 1791. Settlements were made across the Ohio River at Sistersville, West Virginia, and at this point, a ferry was established in 1804.

Philip Witten, a brother-in-law of the noted scouts and Indian fighters, Kinsey and Vachel Dickenson (having married their sister), settled along the Ohio River in what is now Jackson Township.

The next settlement was on Buckhill Bottom in 1794 and was made by Robert McEldowney, who was soon followed by Jacob Ullom and others. Settlements were made at and near the mouth of Sunfish and Opossum Creeks by the Vandevanters, Henthorns, Atkinsons, and others at about 1798-1799. A settlement was made in 1802 where the Town of Calais now stands.

A settlement was made at about the same time by Michael Crow and others on Clear Fork Creek, Cline's settlement, on the Little Muskingum River, was begun about the year 1805. The settlement where Beallsville now stands and Dye's settlement in Perry Township were made at about the same time,

Few of its present inhabitants can realize the hardships endured by the early settlers of the county. Being without mills, they were compelled to resort to grating corn for bread in the early fall and, when too hard for that, to hominy, pounding it in large wooden mortars called "hominy blocks" with iron wedges on the ends of round sticks of wood for a pestle. "Hog and hominy", "johnny cake", wild game, mush, and milk constituted their chief diet. When hand mills were introduced, they were, indeed, a great acquisition but the horse mills were a still greater acquisition. At that time, every farmer had his own flock of sheep and a patch of flax. The wool was carded with hand-cards, spun and woven at home, and made into garments. Nice suits were made of "fulled cloth" and nice gowns for women were made of "pressed flannel". The flax was pulled, spread out in rows on the ground, "rotted", and then "broken and swingled" -- thus preparing it for combing and the "little wheel" as the machine was called on which the flax was spun to distinguish it from the larger machine for spinning wool. It was woven into cloth for table covers, toweling, sheeting, and shirting.

FIRST GERMANS AND SWISS:
In April, 1819, ten German and Swiss families embarked on a flatboat on the Aar River at Berne under the leadership of Jacob Tisher. They descended the Aar River to the Rhine River and continued to the city of Antwerp where they boarded a French ship, Eugenius, for New York. After traveling 48 days, they landed at Amboy, New Jersey, where they purchased teams -- six of the families starting to travel to Wheeling, Virginia, The little colony now consisted of Father Jacob Tisher, Abraham Tisher, Jacob Tschappat, Daniel Fankhauser, Nicholas Fankhauser, Jacob Marti (together with their families), and Jacob Nisperli, single. After a tedious journey , they reached Wheeling and again embarked on a flatboat -- their destination being the Great Kanawa River.

Upon landing at the mouth of Captina, they found two Pennsylvania Germans, George Goetz and Henry Sweppe, who told them that there was plenty of Government land in Monroe County. Part of the colony were induced to stay. Housing room was not available for everyone.

On September 15, Father Tisher and part of his little band continued further down the River to Bare's landing, a distance of sixteen miles. Jacob Bare, an early settler from Maryland, could speak German and received them kindly -- persuading them to settle there. Thus, the two bands, at the same time, began the first German-Swiss settlements in Monroe County -- one party being in Switzerland Township and the other party being in Ohio Township. On the hill in Salem Township (now Switzerland Township), Daniel Mallett built a log cabin. This improvement was purchased by Jacob Tschappat, Sr., who moved the same fall. The other band settled on Congressional land the following spring. At that time, the Township was almost a wilderness -- only a few small improvements had been made. The Blares, Hendershots, Lemleys, and the Smiths had settled on Big Run.

In Ohio Township, settlements were made back from Buckhill Bottom on French Hill by Mozenette Harrison, on Opossum Creek by Jacob Dennis, and on the hill South of Bare's Run by James Ferrell. Shortly thereafter, Christian Regsegger, a native of Switzerland, settled on the hill back of Baresville. The rest of the Township was an unbroken forest. Immigration from Germany and Switzerland had now set in and these fertile hills had become the happy homes of an industrious and a prosperous people. Improvements were mostly confined to the river bottoms prior to these settlements.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP:
Washington Township was organized on June 5, 1832. Among the first settlers were Joseph Cline; other members of the Cline family; Philip, David, and Joseph Allen; James Scott; Abner Powell; Ezekiel Blair; James and Isaac Rinard; Jacob Flint; the Knowlton family; the Dougherty family; the Bever family; and Baldwin Cox.
The first cabin was built in 1816 by Joseph Cline along the valley of Clear Fork. There may have been some improvements made prior to this time by squatters but there were no settlements made prior to this time.

The first child born in Washington Township was Joseph Cline, a son of Joseph and Sarah (Linn) Cline. The first couple married in this Township was Isaac Cline and Mary Cline.

The first grist mill was built by Isaac Rinard in 1818. A saw mill was also built in 1818 by Baldwin Cox on the Little Muskingum. The first saw mill on Clear Fork was built by Philip Allen (date unknown).

A school house was built around 1820. The location of the school house and the first teacher is unknown. It is known, however, that James Scott taught school on the Clear Fork in 1825.

The first church was organized at the house of Joseph Cline by members of the M.E. Church in 1817. The first sermon was preached by Reverend Robert C. Hatten. Among its first members were Joseph and Sarah Cline; Isaac and Nancy Brown; Thomas W. Groves and his wife; and a woman by the name of Mrs. Dailey. The second church was organized at Graysville by the Baptists.

The population of Washington Township in 1849 was 533. The churches in the township at that time were as follows: Low Gap; Christian Union, Thomas Cline being the minister with a membership of 35 persons; Methodist Protestant Church, Reverend Donnelson being the minister with a membership of 52 persons; Graysville Christian Church, A.A. Bunner being the minister with a membership of 65 persons; and the Graysville Baptist Church, Henry Lyons being the minister with a membership of 20 persons.

The first Sabbath School was organized in 1841 by Peter McGowen with 25 scholars attending. The Sabbath schools in the County in 1880 were as follows: Low Gap, Isaac Cline being the Superintendent; the Methodist Protestant, Ezra Massie being the Superintendent; the Graysville Christian Sabbath school, John McCarty being the superintendent; and the Graysville Baptist Sabbath, Thomas Hickenbottom being the Superintendent.

Isaac Brown, Joseph Cline, and William Cline settled in this township in 1804. John Cline lived in Virginia, about three miles above Sistersville, in 1804. He had raised a large crop of hemp and sold it at Marietta. With the proceeds of this sale, he made his first payment on the land which he entered as Congress land in Section 25 in 1805.

George Cline, the father of the above named Cline's, and his wife came from Germany and settled in Pennsylvania. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. After the settlement of Marietta, he moved West and settled near what is now known as Grandview in Washington Township. The first cabins were built by Isaac Brown and Joseph and William Cline in 1804.

The first child born in this settlement was Mary Cline, born on April 5, 1805, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Cline. The second child born on this settlement was another daughter, also named Mary Cline, to George and Christina Cline on April 6, 1805. The first marriage was performed in 1806 uniting Solomon Tice and Rosa Cline. The first person to pass away was Johnny Cline, the son of William and Polly Cline, who passed away about two years after the first settlement. He was supposed to have been bitten by a poisonous snake in the night and he died the next morning.

The first election in this township was held on September 7, 1851 in Brownsville. The first officers elected were as follows: John Hensell, Trustee; Jacob Cline, Trustee; Jonathan Harris, Trustee; Major B. Ray, Clerk; Charles Algeo, Treasurer; Simon Whitney, Assessor; Israel McWilliams, Constable; and Samuel H. Cline, Constable.

The first grist mill was built by John Cline in 1810 at the mouth of Big Lick Run. It was destroyed by fire in 1816. In 1817, Mr. Cline built a saw mill where Ring's Mill later stood and, in connection with this mill, built his second grist mill.

The first school was taught in a small log cabin by Henry Bower in 1813. Another school session was taught in 1815 by William Knight in a log cabin. William Knight was the father of Lemuel and Valentine C. Knight, who lived many years in Wayne Township. Lemuel, Valentine C., and another brother were printers.

The first post office was established on September 10, 1839, and was called Pleasant Fountain with George Gray serving as postmaster. On May 20, 1840, he was succeeded by George Cline, Sr. and, on December 28, 1843, the post office was discontinued. The post office was on the route from Wittens to Cumberland, a distance of 53 miles, The mail was delivered once a week by Jesse Hildebrand, contractor, for $300.00 per year.

The Post Office at Brownsville was called Jolly and was established on July 8, 1842, with W.E. Ayers serving as postmaster. The postmasters up until 1880 were as follows: B. Amos, appointed on January 12, 1843; F. Simon, appointed on December 31, 1843; Francis Wilson, appointed on February 3, 1848; A. McWilliams, appointed on April 8, 1848; G.S. Filliland, appointed on July 27, 1848; V. Barnes, appointed on November 8, 1849; L. Chalk, appointed o n February 24, 1853; George S. Algee, appointed on December 19, 1855; and Christian Sander, appointed on January 30, 1864.

Reverend Robert C. Hatten of the Methodist Episcopal Church preached the first sermon at the home of John Cline in 1812. A society of this denomination was then organized and services were held at private homes until a hewed-log church was built in 1828. This building was also used as a school house. In 1852-3, they built a new frame meeting house (28 x 30) on the same site. This meeting house was known as the Jericho Meeting House and there was a membership of 60 persons and no minister.

The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized one mile South of Brownsville in 1833 and services were held at the Frank Linn home. His home was known as Linn's Appointment, being one of twenty-one appointments of the Woodsfield circuit. They built a log meeting house in 1834 when Wesley Browning was the presiding elder. The first preachers were R. Armstrong, H. Bradshaw, C.D. Battelle, G. Smith, J.W. Minor, D.C. Merryman, W. Athey, and W.J. Tuttle. In 1838-9, the congregation built a log meeting house (22 x 24 feet) in the Town of Brownsville and, in 1856, another frame building (26 x 40 feet) was dedicated on October 12. Reverend J. Henderson was the presiding elder and Reverend A. Bell and Reverend T. Stephens were the preachers. At one time, Reverend W.H. Piggott served the church. Christian Sander served as Recording Steward for 18 years.

The third church which was organized was the German Evangelical St. Paul's Church on Trail Run in 1841. Reverend C. Bahrenz was the first pastor. The congregation built a meeting house in 1848 and a new frame house (32 x 46 feet) in 1871. There was a membership of 36 families and Reverend R. Luesher served the church in 1880.

The fourth church which was organized was the Reformed Presbyterian in 1851 at Brownsville. Reverend Thomas Hannah preached the first sermon and Reverend Wylie was the first settled pastor. The church edifice was built in 1861, being 33 by 45 feet in size.

The fifth church which was organized was the United Presbyterian Church in 1852 at Brownsville. Reverend Alex Young was serving as pastor. In 1853. the society built a frame edifice, being 26 x 36 feet in size.

The sixth church which was organized was the German Evangelical Church on August 30, 1856 at Brownsville.

In 1880, there were the following Sabbath schools in this township: the Methodist Sabbath school at Brownsville with 60 scholars; Christian Sander being Superintendent since May 1, 1859; the United Presbyterian with 45 scholars, S.C. McWilliams being Superintendent; the Jericho Christian Unity Sabbath School with 40 scholars, G.W. Cline being the Superintendent; and The Trail Run Evangelical Sabbath School with 50 scholars, Michael Lohr being the Superintendent.

Brownsville was settled by Israel Brown in 1834. The officers of the township were as follows: Christian Sander, Notary Public since 1869; Rosebetty M. Cline, Justice of the Peace; August Meyer, Justice of the Peace; August Meyer, Clerk (in addition to being Justice of the Peace); S. Ferguson, Treasurer; J. McCaslin, Trustee; T.P. Cline, Trustee; and E. Steward, Trustee. These positions were filled as to January 1, 1882.

In 1882, Brownsville had two stores of general merchandise, one tine and stove store, one shoemaker shop, one blacksmith shop, and one physician and one dealer in leaf tobacco.

Jacob took 27 house boats at Fort Pitt in 1779, loaded with household goods, livestock and anything they could pile on the boats, and went down the Ohio River, landing near Bear Grass (now Louisville) [Draper Manuscripts CC-11, p. 232].

"All of the Van Meter children, with the exception of daughter Eleanor, accompanied their parents, together with their husbands and wives. One babe in arms was in the party, the little daughter of Lieutenant John Swan Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth Van Meter. Swan was sitting on the deck on one of the boats with his little girl in his arms when he was struck by an Indian arrow, fired from the river bank. His wife grabbed his gun and began helping the men ward off the attack. Another tragedy struck the part when Mary Van Meter's husband, David Henton, fell into the river while helping unload the boats and was drowned. Abraham Van Meter was born June 13, 1744, probably in Frederick Co., Virginia. [son of Jacob Van Meter & Letitia Strode/Stroud] in 1779-80 he came with many relatives to Kentucky. In 1780 he was first listed as being in Capt. Wm. Harrod's Company at the stations near The Falls in Jefferson Co. But on June 23, 1780, his name, with several others formerly of Harrod's company, is found on the partial list of Capt. Squire Boone's Company, stationed at "The Painted Stone," near the present town of Shelbyville. Squire Boone, a younger brother of the famous Daniel Boone, in 1779 established the first station in what is now Shelby County, which, for nearly two years was the only one between Harrodsburg and The Falls. This station was broken up in Sept., 1781, when Indians under the leadership of Joseph Brant descended upon Central Kentucky. Hearing of their approach, the inhabitants decided to remove to the stronger settlements on Beargrass Creek (Louisville). En route, they were attacked by a large body of Indians, defeated and dispersed with great loss. Likely Abraham Van Meter had finished his term of service in the forces there, but he did not long survive that event.

In the Kentucky Historical Library in Frankfort is the only copy of a work by William W. Henton of Canton, Missouri, entitled The Van Meter Family. Quote from page 7: Taken from an old letter dated July 14, 1887, written by Susan Van Meter Crutcher, daughter of Jacob Van Meter, Jr. (1762-1850) to her daughter, Mary J. Wale of Jasper, MO. - 'It was father who dreamed he lost his hat, and grandfather said you will lose one of your brothers. In three or four days we heard Uncle Abraham was killed by the Indians. An old man living in the fort was clearing some ground and sent his boy out and a hired man to push up the heaps, and the Indians were lying in the fence corner. The hired man saw them, ran back and they shot him. That gave the alarm. Uncle jumped up to go. His wife [Elizabeth Cline] begged him not to go. He went and he and two others were shot. He helped to bury the other two, and died in four days. He was a very large and stout man with a tremendous voice which could be heard a mile away on a clear day. He was killed by the poisoned ball fired by an Indian. It was a mere graze upon the thigh and he thought nothing of it at first, but soon the deadly poison developed itself and speedily ended his life. He left four daughters, Catherine Letitia, Sarah and Elizabeth.'

According to official records, letters of administration were granted by the Court of Jefferson County to his widow, Elizabeth, Dec. 3, 1781, the sureties being John Vertrees and Wm. Hall. In March of 1781, Abraham and Jacob had each taken up 800 acres of land in Jefferson County. Other items of Abraham's property appraised after his death: plows, hoes, scythes, spades, pitchforks, harrows, maddocks, saws, lamps, bedticks, curtains, coverlids, flax hackle, spinning wheel, 26 spools of yarn, pots, skillets, griddles, potracks, spit, teakettle, dishes, sidesaddle, chains, singletrees, handmill, wedges, pruning knives, gouges, grindstone, steelyards, rifles, tomahawk, 11 head of cattle, a bull, 3 horses.

In 1782, Elizabeth, the widow, married Samuel Goodin and brought with her to Goodin's Fort in Hardin County her four small Van Meter daughters. Catherine was 12, Letitia 10, Sarah 9, and Elizabeth 2. By 1797 all four had married. There is some authority also for a son named Abraham, Jr. "General Braddock", a slave of Abraham's valued in the inventory at 100 pounds, also went with Elizabeth to Goodin's Fort. In 1797, he made a lone raid on Indians and returned with 9 scalps, for which said deed he was set free on March 19, 1797, whereupon he married a negress known as Becky Swank, and lived in Hardin County."

Memory of my Dad noodling, by his daughter Donna L. (Tice) Carnall:
Noodling: the term for the way some (usually males) catch their fish. These guys wade out into the river and feel for holes or logs on the river floor and in the river banks. When they find a catfish hole, they stick their hands in there and wiggle their fingers, the cats latch on and these "insane" men (fishermen) pull out these monsters. Some fish are so big they literally pull the fisherman under.

Dad used to noodle, & always being an extremely honest man, it was funny that he choose this way to knowingly & willingly break the law. Noodling has been against the law, atleast in Kansas for many years.

Noodling takes work & talent, & I believe atleast a touch of insanity! Noodling is a craft. When I was a kid it always fascinated me to watch Dad work at his craft. I'm 58, so that was a long time ago, & my father died in 1979, at the age of 71. Anyway, he did it like you described, or he would stand very quietly neck deep in the middle of the river. The latter way, you couldn't see him moving, but underwater his hands were moving very slowly, kind of teasing & feeling for any fish that might be swimming nearby that he could snag on to.

One time Dad was getting the teasing in reverse from a pretty good sized fish. The fish would stick his head out of the water, just beyond Dad's easy reach, & look at him, then submerge. He did this repeatedly, until he was kind of ticking off my Dad. Finally, Dad had had enough, so the next time the fish appeared to take another peek at Dad my father stuck out his tongue at the fish, & the fish got him! Not an easy task to remove a live fish from your tongue! Poor Dad! Moral: when noodling, keep your tongue in your mouth!

Another time Dad was noodling he latched on to such a big one that he rode it quite a ways down river before one or the other tired. Not sure which one won that battle (don't remember if I was ever told), but I do know my Dad was extremely stubborn when challenged! Stubborness is a Tice trait!

There are always many fish stories being told, & my Dad could tell them with the best of them, but I know these are true, because there were witnesses. I sure miss my Dad's stories....I miss my Dad!

I am curious about this Buck line because there isn't, as yet, an explaination for this Buck family coming from Germany.

Joseph Buck no orgin or dates given and wife's name not given. They have Susannah Buck born some time around 1750. Germany is listed once but no other explaination. I think this may be an assumtion based on the Cline and surrounding community orgins. Susannah Buck Cline died around 1840 Benton Township, OH in Monroe County and she was buried at Jericho Cemetery.

Any thought on this?

This link above goes to the results of Cline family DNA testing. This testing has shown that although the Clines came from Germany they are in haplo group G2 which is from India and Pakastan anciently. This helps to tie the Clines into the Melungeon DNA research which have shown similar results. There is also the tradition of "Black Dutch", Native American, and darker features. I want to thank Harley Dakin for inviting me to his family site and linking to the DNA results. Also for his explaination of those results.

These Van Meters are relations through George Cline and Susanna Buck.
Say hello to your Seneca cousins, and guess what?, the Saponi and Tutelo had a relationship with not only the Cayuga, but also the Senca.

And so it was that Margaret Van Meter, age 8, was with her parents and Daniel Boone’s party of 23 men during the siege of Boonesborough in 1777. We do not know her father’s name. but he also fought at the Battle of King’s Mountain in South Carolina in 1780.

So it was also that John Van Meter’s cabin was raided by the Indians near Short Creek, Ohio County, Va. in 1783 while he was away. His wife Rebecca and two small sons were murdered in their cabin which was burned. Their beautiful 15 year old daughter Hannah was washing at a nearby spring where she was axed. This spot is still known as Hannah’s Spring. Son John was captured, but other sons Abraham and Isaac escaped. The captive John grew up with the Indians and married a Seneca girl related to the famous Joseph Brant, Mohawk leader who in 1787 completed translation of portions of the Bible into the Mohawk language. On April 29, 1817 a treaty was signed between the United States and. the Indian tribes of Ohio which ceded all of the Indian lands within the limits of Ohio to the United States, forever. A reservation in the treaty was made to John Van Meter, his Seneca wife and her three brothers of 1000 acres near Tiffin, Ohio where they lived. John died on this “Van Meter Reserve” leaving it to his only son John who sold it in 1828 to move west of the Mississippi with the remnants of his tribe. John and his wife once stayed several days with our Isaac Van Meter in Putnam County. They were second cousins.

"John Van Meter, a Dutch trader from New Jersey was probably the first European to set foot in the county. He accompanied a band of Delaware Indians on a raid against the Catawba Indians in 1732. The Delaware Indians lost the battle, but Van Meter later told his sons, John and Isaac, about the fine lands along the South Branch River and his sons later purchased a warrant for 40,000 acres in the area."

How do the Van Meters connect with you, Collins?
They lived near my folks in WV and intermarry with some lines of the Greens. My Greens in Ohio were acquainted with the Van Meter who married Joseph Brandt's sister.

There is an old thread labeled "Senecas of the Sandusky" in "The Other Blackfoot" where we discuss the connection and the fact that many of the Saponi/Tutelo who travel north might have become the Senecas of the Sandusky.

My Tice family married into the Cline family and the Cline family married into the Van Meter family. If you go to the first page of this thread it will give you a detailed connection to the Van Meters and a link as well.

My Tice/Cline/Van Meter lines are from my Grandma's side. That would be my dad's mother's side. (My grandma)Lorena Pearl Rothgeb's mother was Clara Lamonia Tice. Clara Lamonia Tice's parents were Solomon William Tice and Ellen Elizabeth Morris. Solomon William Tice's parents were George Tice and Cynthia Miller.

George Tice's parents were John Tice and Catherine Cline.
Catherine Cline's parents were George Cline and Susannah Buck.

George Cline's father was John Cline.
Children of JOHN CLINE, SR. are:
2. i. GEORGE2 CLINE, SR., b. Bet. 1735 - 1740, Northern Germany; d. 14 Apr 1801, near Mill Creek above Matamoras, Washington Co., OH.
3. ii. JACOB CLINE, b. Germany; d. Abt. 1798.
iii. JOHN CLINE, JR., b. Germany.
4. iv. ELIZABETH CLINE

It was our Jacob Cline that married ELEANOR VAN METER daughter of JACOB VAN METER and LETITIA STRODE.

All of this is listed out here in more detail in this thread.

I think I saw that thread you were talking about in passing, but never read it. I may need to take a look at it.

We have Green family in our lines as well, but I'm not very familiar with those lines as yet. We connect to the Bennetts as well.

There are so many connections that it is hard for me to concentrate on all of them at any given time. So it is like that old saying "How do you eat an elephant?, one bite at a time."
However, this dilema is on it's way to being resolved. I firmly hope that through SDA we will be able to sort through all this and organize the information in a more concise and presentable fashion so that it is not as jumbbled up. One of the main goals of SDA will be the untangling of our family vines to see what lay beneath.

Collins:
I do have a Cline and a Buck listed as intermarrying my folks, but this is not surprising, as the locations are very near mine and I know one family of Greens at least (Wife was a Beaver.) was involved with the church of the Van Meter who married the Brandt. Bess said there was a citation to this effect and later I found something that indicated this also.
