I have a question, does anyone know what the "fashion" was for Colonial English regarding pierced ears? I found my Lucy Peters in the FPC register for Petersburg, VA and her description was that she had holes in her ears. I know it was customary for the tribe to pierce their ears. Just curious how much of a trend this was for the English women. Could this be useful in narrowing down her race from FPC to Native?

to my understanding it is a woodland indian tradition. The piercing are like the dream catcher bad dreams must have a inter and exist hole also they stand for the four directions etc. This was told to me by a lumbee.

I have no idea how old the idea of ear piercing is in Europe.
