Looks like my 8th great grandfather was Richard Smith who married Margaret Blow. They lived in Surry County Va. They had a daughter Elizabeth Smith who married Thomas Sessums of Surry County. They moved to Chowan County NC before 1711. This part of Chowan County later became Bertie County. Then later it become Edgecombe County. Thomas and Elizabth Sessums had 5 sons: Thomas, Nicholas, Richard, Culmer and Samuel. IN Bertie County there are court records that say the Sessums family had to prove their children were white. Interesting huh? Culmer Sessums married Elizabeth Lewellen and had a daughter named Mary who married my ggggg grandfather Elijah Moore.
I believe I read on this forum somewhere that the migrations patterns of the Nottoway were much like this family. If anyone has information on this or this family please let me know.
I have seen records where Blows witnessed transactions when the Nottoway were selling their land. I have also read some family stories were at least one Blow ran the woods and fields with the Nottoway. Childhood playmates I assume.
I also have Robbins in this same line that married into the Moore's. The name John Robbins has popped up but trying to connect were he is in this line. Can anyone tell me if John Robbins (Chowan) had a son named William?
Thanks,
Linda
