there is a lot of into on this website..lots of deeds with names many of us could recognize.
Site still under construction so the list to be cont'd
The neat thing is the deeds extracted were to show either relationships or the persons not in Granville but surrounding areas deeding land in Granville..could help someone locate a relative...

QUESTION.
My interpretation of this list is that it's just a head count. At first I wondered if it would just be adults or what..but some households have as many as 8 whites..etc...
Memucan Hunt is on this list with 2 whites and 7 blacks..blacks meaning anyone not white...and his first child was born in 1755 with several others up to 1775..there would have been just about the right amount of children born by 1769 for the tax list to come up with this type of count..
I'm just being cautious..or maybe dense..am I on the right track here?

Sue,
Since it's a Tax List, it's listing those persons in a household for whom a tax was to be paid, but didn't list everyone in the household - I think. Brenda's the expert on that.
