In case any of you don't know, I do web design. I've talked to vendors at pow wows about getting their stuff online and worked with a few. There's a problem though, getting their stuff out there.
There are a lot of craft sites, but not all that many people searching them out. On the other hand, there's a huge demand for informational sites, with not that many sites to serve them.
I think the informational sites should start giving access to the craftspeople. So that's what I'm doing. It's like going to a pow wow to hear the music and see the dancing, but while you're there you stop and browse the vendors tents. We need to be bringing the public to these people.
I don't know if it will work, but that's what I'm trying. I've just finished a site for Johnny Loudthunder, a Lakota who does painted feathers and beadwork. I wish him well. If this can work, it will mean a lot if some of these folks can get to their market without having to be on the road so much.
