If anyone has any info on HOSKINS in KY, I would greatly appreciate it if you could check your records and see if you have my particular HOSKINS listed anywhere.
I'm looking for:
Polly Ann Hoskins, born approx. 1879.
Married Joseph Hamblin twice. First marriage was March 21, 1907, the second marriage was May 31, 1909. Both marriages were in Perry County, KY.
Sometime after her second son was born in 1909 she "went home" to live with her parents. She was deceased by 1911. I've never been able to figure out where "home" was or who her parents were.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Patty,
Didn't find her or him.
What were her sons' names?

Her sons were Leander Hamblin, b. 1907 & Julius Hamblin b. 1910, both in Perry County, KY.
Family history says she left Joe and took her babies back to live with her parents and younger brothers. I think that would have been around 1910-1912. She died shortly after and Old Joe came and got the boys.
She was the second of Joseph Hamblin's four wives, so there were lots of children in the house along with her two.
Other 1/2 brothers & sisters would have been Harrison, Isaac, Woolery, Hezekiah Dutch & Dora.
Joseph married twice more and had 5 more children (12 total) plus a step-daughter who married one of his boys from his first marriage.
Is it any wonder this is hard to sort out??
I've also wondered if perhaps HOSKINS wasn't her maiden name. I derived her age by the "age of the mother" listed on Leanders' birth certificate. If that's accurate, she was 28 when she married Joe the first time. It's completely possible that she was previously married to a HOSKINS, in which case I'll probably never find out anything about her.

Patty,
On the 1910 Perry Co census, ED172 Mag Dist 2 Campbell, visit 17 (all b.Ky unless otherwise noted);
Joseph "Hamblen", 44, m'd 2x, marr'd 2 yrs (this time?), b. Ky; father b. Va; mother b.Ky;
Isaac, 18, m(ale)
Woolery, 16, m.
Duch, 14, m.
Leandrew, 2, m. (Leander, I presume)
Next door is Green B. "Hamblen", 31; wife Haley, 31; with 4 children:
Froney, 8, f.
Polina, 6, f.
Ophra, 4, f.
Boyd, 2, m.
So, Leander stayed with Joseph.
(at visit 6, is Isaac "Hamblen", 73, b.Va, Va, Va. with 2nd wife
Sarah, 30, m'd 8 yrs.
I haven't checked him but he's a good candidate for Joseph's father.)
Then, it gets kinda complicated:
On 1910 Perry Co census, ED180, Mag Dist 7, Forked Mouth Creek, Pg.102A, are a series of COUCH, HOSKINS, FELTNER, HAMBLIN/HAMELIN families. I think this is Polly Ann Hoskins/Hamblin and her family:
visit 74:
COUCH, William; 63, m'd 2x, 25 yrs, farmer.
..........., Sally A.; wife, 54, m'd 2x, 25 yrs, 6 children, 5 living.
..........., Sally A.; dau, 13.
..........., Nancy A.; dau, 27, divorced.
..........., Boyd; son, 18.
HAMBLIN, Alford; grandson, 3.
.............., Madge; granddau, 9 months.
visit 84, pg.102B: (Polly's brother)
HOSKINS, Abijah; farmer, 39, m'd 2x (3?), m'd 10 yrs.
.............., Nancy; wife, 29, m'd 1x, m'd 10 yrs, 4 children, 3 living.
.............., Sarah B.; dau, 6.
.............., Vinie; dau, 4.
.............., Betsey; dau, 2.
visit 85, pg.103A:
HOSKINS, John J.(?); farmer, 31, sgl. (Polly's brother)
.............., Nancy A.; mother; 65, m'd 2x, m'd 13 yrs, 10/9 children.
.............., Monroe; brother; 20.
.............., Mitchell; Nephew; 18.
FELTNER, Boyd; Nephew; 18.
HAMELIN, POPPY, sister, 27, m'd 2x, m'd 3 yrs; 3/3 children.*****
.............., Ezekiel; Nephew, 6.
.............., JULIUS; Nephew, 2 months.*******
HOSKINS, Jasper; Nephew, 3.
(I think "Poppy" is Polly, and her son Julius, but since "Poppy" has 3 children, Ezekiel is probably her son, too, but from the 1st marriage. John and Monroe are her brothers and Nancy A. is her mother.)
visit 86: (her brother William. Sarah may be a BROCK)
HOSKINS, William; farmer, 24, m'd 1x, m'd 3 yrs.
.............., Sarah B.; wife, 18, m'd 1x, m'd 3 yrs.
.............., Alpha; dau, 2.
.............., Brock; Nephew, 16.

visit 88:

.............., Ezekiel; son, (blank) 1882, 18.
.............., William; son, Jun(?) 1887, 13.
.............., Monroe; son, Mar 1890, 10.
(I don't know if the "visit 88" was misplaced by a line or not, but with Adam Campbell and Nancy Campbell both being marr'd 4 yrs, I think that's what happened. Anyway, this Nancy Campell is the mother of these Hoskins and they are id'd on 1910 census as "Poppy" (Polly's) brothers - except for Ezekiel who I can't place except on this census.)
Next door, visit 89, is who I think is Polly Hoskins and her 1st husband:
COUCH, Barlow; farmer, June 1876, 23, m'd, m'd 0 yrs.
..........., Polly Ann; wife, March 1884, 16, m'd, m'd 0 yrs.
Visit 90 is Sarah Couch, 43, widow of David, and these are Barlow Couch's parents.

Patty,
I think these are Polly's parents and siblings, even tho' the kids' ages are pretty ragged comparisons to 1900 census, recall that many of their months of birth were unknown, leading to the obvious conclusion that their yr of birth may not be known exactly.
1880 Perry Co census, ED82, 1 June; pg.534A, visit 8: (all b.Ky)
HOSKINS, Thomas; 42, farmer.
.............., NANCY ANN; 35, wife.*******
.............., Manuel; 13, son.
.............., Jane; 12, dau.
.............., Abijah, 9, son.****
.............., Alin, 6, son.
.............., Jefferson, 6, son.****
.............., John, 11 months, son.****
(I didn't find them yet on a "quick check" of the 1870 census)
On 1860 Perry Co census, Thos. Hoskins, 21, is shown with wife (?) named Hanna, 15, b.Ky. I don't think this is Nancy, but a 1st wife)
Thomas Hoskins's parents:
1850 Perry Co., Ky census, District 1; pg.408B, visit 148:
William HOSKINS, 48, farmer, $0, TENN.
Rebecca ............, 40, f, VA.
William..............., 19(?), m, Ky.
Jefferson............, 18, m, Ky.
THOMAS............., 14, m, Ky.*******
Nancy................., 11, f, Ky.
Martha................, 8, f, Ky.
Louisa................., 1, f, Ky.

Bill,
You have FOUND HER!! Thank you so much!!! I've been searching for my great-grandmother for years.
The reason I know without a doubt that it's her, is that Grandpa used to call her Poppie, it was even written on his social security application as his mother's name, but her "real" name was Polly Ann.
Yes, the Isaac Hamblin next door, married to Sarah (Oliver) is Joseph's father and Isaac's second wife. My line goes through his first wife, Mary Morris.
You have given me a lot of leads!
Thank you so much!
