Bill has recently made reference to some names which are very difficult to trace because there is such an abundance of people scattered around with the same name. Perhaps it would be good if we tried to amass a list of these names. Also a list of original settlers would be good to create. I think we will see some of the same surnames on both lists.
In my lines, some of the names that have so far been difficult to sort out are:
Sarah Beasley b. 1823
Robert Beasley b. 1795
Stephen Beasley b. c 1770 .... mine are in Granville/Person cos, NC but the same name group is found in multiple locations at the same times. This also applies to the following:
Elizabeth Evans b. 1795
Samuel Evans b. c 1770
Richard Moore b. 1793
Abraham Moore b. 1746
Alice Jones b. c 1795
Henry Jones b. c 1770
Lucy Jones b. 1834
Elizabeth Glenn b. 1770
Sarah Richardson b. c 1750
Daniel Meadows b. c 1774
William Davie b. c 1780

The previous list was just my mother's lines in NC.
My father's lines follow the same patterns in Va. They are in eastern Va in early to mid 1700s then in the New River area by late 1700s to early 1800s. Again, the same names are found in other clusters in Ky, Tn, Ga, SC, In, Ak ...etc.

Mathew Cox

Sarah Cox
Martha Cox
Lucy Cox

Abraham Goad
Hannah Goad
Sarah Reed

Add Susannah Martin to the 4000+ list....... with an interesting twist....... the original settler, Susannah Martin was hanged as a witch in Salem.
Mine and Becky's Susannah Martin married William Moore around 1745 in either Va or NC........ by 1800 they are all over the place

Hey!

:) This is a good idea, I have Reed and Evans and a lot more, but I'm not going to post them all untill I get them all sorted out. Its going to be a while. But I will post them as soon as I can. Love & light, Lynella.:)

My can't find/can't prove is Thomas Jefferson Hughes (and his father Richard Emery Hughes) who our family records say was born in 1825 in Cross Keys, Union Co., SC. But there were 5 or 6 Other Thomas Jefferson Hugheses recorded as born between 1800 and 1825 in Union Co or neighboring Counties of SC.

Am also having trouble tracing several Moores, who seem to trace back to NC/SC/MS around 1800.

These could all just be problems of families who weren't wealthy and didn't keep a lot of records, of course.

Hana,

It's probably nothing. I'm sure it won't prove helpful, but the other day I dug up a big long list of Cherokee Surnames and Moore was on there. Some had e-mail addresses with them as a contact person for that surname. I'll go dig it up and post it here if it had a contact. If it doesn't have a contact, well, atleast Ya' know I found Moore on there. Saj is looking for Moore too, isn't she? Love & Light, Lynella.:)

Hana,

:) O.K. Here it is. Moore (DDRiche@aol.com) (11jo65@bellsouth.net) (jkernan@xpressweb.com) (Julinoa@aol.com:KY,IN,IL)

Then there is Moor and More and Mohr and they all have the same e-mail, (rbarnes1@ij.net:AL,NC,KY,TN)

Maybe you can find something through one of those. Let me know how it works out. Good luck! Lynella.;)
