This is not funny right now, but there will come a day when it will be. It is one of those things that is hard to believe. I live 50 to 60 miles from my campus and usually take the train if I can. Today, I had a meeting that I had to drive my 2-month old used New Beetle that I love to one of the campuses. On my way home, it had been raining, so the pavement was wet. I was driving the speed limit or below with plenty of space between me and the car ahead of me. It stopped; I did not, even though I used the brakes. I had time to reflect on the best way of braking, consideration of how I ought to steer, thinking "Not my new car!" and "Not me!" The car slid like it was on ice; I think it was greasy as well as wet. She had time to try to get out of my way, but it was not possible. The traffic did not permit. Now here's the kind of strange thing. As all of us were being checked out, my car was towed, and the paperwork was being filled out, the police asked us if we knew one another. Mind you, we were both 45 miles from home and in another state. No, we did not know one another, even though we lived in the same town. After all the police work was done, she gave me a ride home. What a way to meet someone! More than that, what a way to meet her husband! Talk about awkward social moments, "Nice to meet you; I rear-ended your wife in your car. Wasn't it nice of her to give me a ride home? "

Techteach,

Oh MAN! What kind of chaotic luck was that? I'm glad you were both o.k. No injuries, right? Oh man, and a new car to boot! My heart goes out to ya'. God Bless, Lynella.

Thanks, just fine. At least until it seemed that from the phone call to the insurance company that they are leaning towards totalling out my car. It is not new, only new to me. And I love that car.

Thanks, Vance, I needed that. I am sitting here bawling because it seems as if they will be totalling a car I loved.

Techteach,

Hey, I know what you mean. If you're anything like me, you give your cars names and bond with them like a pet. Are they wanting to total it cause of the air bags? My Stepdaughter had that happen with a brand new Neon a few years ago. The car was overall fine, but due to the cost of replacing the blown airbags the insurance company totalled the car. I will never by a car with air bags! It's oldies but goodies for me! I am just so glad you're all right. I understand the tears, but girl you're in one piece and that's the most important. You can bond with another car. I started naming mine after Harry Potter characters! Well, God Bless You, Love & Light, Lynella.;)

OK, I got a different VW Beetle today, black instead of yellow. They totaled out my other one. We cleaned it out yesterday. Just a visit to court to hopefully get the ticket dropped. They charged me with going too fast, but the policeman thought they will drop it, because the road was wet from an earlier heavy thunderstorm.
The story is beginning to make me laugh when I tell it. The saga is almost done.
