Has anyone seen the articles on Tutelo kinship terms? and does anyone want that info posted, it maybe a bit "early" but I thought perhaps I'd ask!

Ooh, yes, please do. Lynella.
hello , on the Occaneehi web site is a listing of kinship terms, the info I have is from American Anthropologist, and I'll have to figure out how to use athis key board, there's some rather odd bits to add so be patient.

Tom,
Adding the "C" 's with the squigly under it, is going to drive you over the edge!!
I think linguists use those symbols to impress everyone else.
More practical, I think, is to use a phonetic sound "spelled out", as does the Cherokee alphabet (unlike the printed Cherokee symbol for the sound).
Bill
I know what you mean Bill, but how do you write the sound of "hukx" like clearing your throat?
There must be a symbol out there but what is it.
The word for squirrel is "ni stoe (hukx) kii" or something like that , to hear it is great to read it.... well I haven't figured that out yet.
Thanx tho' Bill.

TOM,
I just went through this again, a refresher course! I think spelling it out like Hukx is a fine way to represent it as long as you add that it's a sound like clearing your throat. I mean, EVEN I can grasp that! So, why couldn't we do that untill we figure out another way? I'm bad.....I ordered a playstation2 game for one of my son's today.....along with 5 CD's I wanted. THEN I remembered my Tutelo Gramar Book! So, I'll just have to grit my teeth and get it and make some extra candles and stuff this month! :D I know we're all busy with our own lives and everything else we're trying to put together here. Don't take too much time away from the basket. But I still think this will be a cool thing and I'm sure Kerry's chomping at the bit. I've told him all about it. Anyway, Love & light, Lynella.:)

Hey Tom, This sounds cool. I'll be waiting patiently for this. And thanks for the Welcome in "welcome to Saponi town". I hope to hang around a good while.

In the Tutelo grammar by Horatio Hale, the letter 'q' is used for the (hukx) sound, and the 'q' is also used to write this sound in Hidatsa. The Lakota (incl. Dakota and Nakota) also have this sound, and many writers of Lakota (et al.) use a dotted 'h' to write this sound.
Most often, I have seen the word for squirrel written 'nastaqkai'.

Todgar,
:D Hey long time! You're right about the Lakota. I haven't checked into any others. I'm glad you posted this. We need to get everyone pumped up on this again! :D Love & Light, Lynella.
