Welcome to the Forum, Rhonda,
I think I can probably fill in some gaps if you give me a couple of days. WHITT rings a few bells. In the meantime, there are a few passing references to WHITT on the forum and you can read up on those by clicking on the "search" button above the message blocks and when that "search" panel comes up, type in "whitt" and scroll down until the "submit" button comes into veiw and click on that and read the results.
I think everyone would be interested to know how you arrived on this forum. I for one, would. Would you tell us your story?
Bill

Rhonda,
The only SPURLOCK family on the 1910 Carter Co., Ky census is a Burrell Spurlock, 35, b. Ky; his wife MINNIE, 26, b.Ky; and their 2 sons: Mathew E., 5, and George R.(?), 3. Maybe Tom Spurlock's name was Thomas Burrell or Burrell Thomas Spurlock.
Close, but no home run.
You'll need to get a copy of Mentie Whitt Spurlock's death certificate in order to find out who her parents were. You can get a copy of that for $12 from Kentucky Vital Records office in Frankfort, Ky.
It will list who her parents were.
Here's the difficulty.....
"Mentie" seems to be a nickname. It's probably "Araminta"/ "Aremintia" or something close to that.
Your info is that she was born about 1887, so she was born after the 1880 census and married around 1902 (?) which would leave her listed with her parents only on the 1900 census.
The only Whitt female that comes close is a "Mend" Whitt, b. May 1888 on the 1900 census, which is NOT close enough to the known info to say for certain that this is her.
So, see if you can get the death certifcate.
Bill
