My name is Todd, which is Scots dialect for 'Fox', and translates into the language of the Yesan ('Saponi people') as 'Tokhai'.
I am trying to learn the language, but I am not fluent. I am not finding it too difficult, since the language is related to Lakota, but I am not readily able to find materials on the language.
(Please forgive my use of 'Yesanglish', but I have a very limited vocabulary.)
I am hoping to visit a Yesan mampi ('village') in Amanishuck ('the hilly country') as soon as I have the time and resources to do so.
I live near a tahkai ('forest'). There are many nastaqkai ('squirrels'), suslik ('chipmunks'), mika ('raccoons') and mayink ('birds') near where I live, as well as a few tokhai ('foxes'), but there aren't as many munakha ('beaver') and dalusgik ('bobcats') as there used to be.
Last week, I had a good visit with my eati ('father') and hena ('mother') at their ati ('house') in Ohio, west of Amanishuck. I live east of Amanishuck in Massachusetts.
My vocabulary is exhausted. I need to learn more.
